World Crown 300 is an Event With a Long and Storied History
First Race Was Held in November, 1983
Track PR Report
Rarely has there ever been a greater gathering of top short track stock car drivers than the one that assembled at Georgia International Speedway for the inaugural World Crown 300 on Sunday, November 27, 1983.

The all-star starting lineup included Jody Ridley, Mark Martin, Freddy Fryar, Darrell Waltrip, Alan Kulwicki, Rusty Wallace, Bob Senneker, Mike Alexander and the ‘Alabama Gang’ – Neil Bonnett, Bobby, Donnie and Davey Allison.

Wisconsin short-track legend Dick Trickle bested them all taking home the first-place trophy at the 1983 World Crown 300. Since then, the biggest names in auto racing have also captured the race with Waltrip, Mike Eddy, Rich Bickle, Rick Crawford, Paul Kelley, Jimmy Garmon and Ronnie Sanders among those taking home the title of ‘King Of The Short Tracks.’

On Sunday, November 14, a host of drivers from all over the United States and Canada will see if they can make history and be the next to wear the ‘Crown’ when the 27th-edition of the classic race takes the green flag at what is now Gresham Motorsports Park.

In recent years, the World Crown 300 has grown into a weekend racing experience with the addition of championship events for the Mini Stock, Renegade Street Stock, Truck, Outlaw Late Model and US Legends International Legend and Bandolero divisions.

This year, the Mini Cup cars have been added to the World Crown weekend mix – along with the first-ever World Crown 125 - a $7,000 to win Pro Late Model race on Saturday, November 13.

Sunday’s Super Late Model World Crown 300 – a 300-lap live pit stop battle – will pay $20,000 to the winner making it one of the biggest season-ending short track events in the country this year.

“This will be the most exciting race of the season, especially now that we’ve added the Saturday evening Pro Late Model race to Sunday’s World Crown 300 Super Late Model event,” said Dan Elliott, general manager at Gresham Motorsports Park. “That’s going to double the excitement. We’ll have some of the best drivers in the nation here – new talent against a number of seasoned veterans. There’s a lot of kids who are up and coming talents and others who are proven champions. You have to respect both for their accomplishments – and we’re going to have a lot of both of them here next weekend.”

Among those vying for this year’s ‘King Of The Short Tracks’ title are Kelley, the only-four time winner of the World Crown 300 and the defending champion of the event. Previous Crown champs Russell Fleeman and Garmon are also entered.

Additional top drivers filing entries for the November 14 classic are Chase Elliott, Johanna Long, Ross Kenseth, Augie Grill, Jason Hogan, Mike Garvey, Wayne Anderson, Bubba Pollard and Eddie Hoffman, Jr.
