Regardless of the outcome at the 27th-World Crown 300 on Sunday, November 14, at least six drivers are going to go home happy from the racing classic at Gresham Motorsports Park.
As 2010 Gresham Motorsports Park Hoosier Tire regular-season champions, Bubba Pollard, Shawn Simpson, David Murphy, Brittany Finley, Spanky Hicks and Doug Sexton will leave the Jefferson, GA racetrack with a several awards and prizes.
All six will be honored during the gala pre-race ceremonies prior to the running of the World Crown 300. Each division champion will receive a trophy and a Hoosier Racing jacket. The top-five finishers in each division will receive a cash award based on Hoosier Tire and Sunoco Fuel sales at Gresham Motorsports Park throughout the 2010 season as well as monies contributed to the point fund by Jim and Tony Gresham, owners of Gresham Motorsports Park.
Pollard won the GMP Super Late Model regular season championship on the strength of a trio of runner-up finishes and a third-place effort in four races. Jimmy Garmon won the Super Late Model main event on June 19 to propel him to second in the season standings in front of Allen Karnes, Chase Elliott and Greg Simpson.
Meanwhile, Shawn Simpson captured the GMP Pro Late Model season title over David Odell by a 505-460 margin. James Nealis came home third in the 2010 PLM standings with 440 points while Johnny Henderson (419) and Nick Potts (410) completed the top-five.
Murphy grabbed the GMP Outlaw Late Model season championship in the final point’s race of the year coming home with 1,125 markers - 15 better than runner-up Tina Stephens (1110). Brian Hardman (1085) was third with Jason Bates (1,025) and Terry Martin (1,020) completing the top-five in the final OLM season standings.
Finley – the first woman to ever win a division championship at GMP - totaled 1,275 points in eight GMP Truck events this season. Joel Townsend was a strong second in the standings with 1,132 markers while Bill Hoose (1,100), Brandon Franklin (1,097) and Jeremy Parris (1,064) rounded out the top-five finishers in the Truck division.
Hicks captured the Mini Stock season championship at GMP by a 1,280 to 1,123 margin over Ken Candiotti, Sr.
Steve Hill (1,038), Avery Burgess (1,005) and Bill George (935) completed the top-five finishers in the Mini Stock division.
Finally, Sexton totaled 1,260 points to grab the Renegade title over Jody Trivett (1,065). Nathaniel Carlisle (880), Jeremy Dills (765) and Brian Beckner (730) completed the top-five in the Renegade season standings at GMP this season.
The 2010 World Crown 300 – scheduled for Thursday-Sunday, November 11-14 - will roll off with a two-hour Super and Pro Late Model practice on Thursday, November 11 from 5-7 p.m.
Friday’s action will be highlighted by a full program of US Legends International Legends and Bandoleros as well as feature events in the Outlaw Late Model, Mini Cup and Renegade Street Stock divisions.
Pole position qualifying for Sunday’s Super Late Model World Crown 300 will cap Friday’s on-track activities.
The Pro Late Model division will burn up the GMP half-mile oval with practice, qualifying and the headline 125-lap main event on Saturday, November 13. A 75-lap Truck Series main event and feature races in the Mini Stock division will also highlight Saturday’s World Crown weekend action.
Sunday’s World Crown 300 event will get underway with gates opening at 12 noon. Opening Ceremonies are at 1:30 p.m. with the green flag at 2 p.m.
