Pro Shocks Shock of the Week - Snowball Derby Week Edition
This Week's Big Surprise in Short Track Racing
As Decided by the Staff of
Welcome to a special Snowball Derby edition of the Pro Shocks "Shock of the Week" award on  This time, we looked back on the 43rd Annual Snowball Derby, as well as the Snowflake 100, at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida, and asked our panel of experts to vote on what they thought the most shocking thing to happen was.

Their response was nearly unanimous.

Hometown driver Johanna Long entered the Snowball Derby this year as the favorite in the hearts of many fans, but not necessarily the favorite on paper.

While guys like Chase Elliott had won the Blizzard Series title this year and Augie Grill, Bubba Pollard, Mike Garvey and plenty of other drivers all won races this year, Long had not enjoyed much luck during the 2010 season and went into the Snowball Derby winless for the season.

But Long was saving the best for last.  She won the biggest Super Late Model race of them all by taking the lead late in the Derby and then heading to victory lane.

That performance earned Johanna Long this week's Pro Shocks "Shock of the Week" award.

Here is what one of our voters had to say about Long's performance:

"Who better to give the Shock of the Week to than the pride of Pensacola?  Johanna Long got the job done on Sunday. And while she may have been a sentimental favorite heading into the Derby, there was still a bevy of big names in attendance, but the second-generation star utilized both strategy and grit to come away with the win AND the shock of the week."

Also receiving votes this week were:

Ryan Blaney (Snowball Derby) - We've learned throughout this year that not all shocks are good ones.  That was true for Ryan Blaney at the Snowball Derby as the CRA Southern Six Pack champion ran into trouble during qualifications and did not make it into the starting field for the 43rd Annual edition of the race.  Heading into the week, Blaney was considered to be one of the favorites for the race win.  Blaney's struggles earned a single vote in the Pro Shock competition this time around.

For her “Shock” of a performance, Johanna Long will receive a product gift certificate from Pro Shocks, the short-track leader in racing shock technology and performance.  Based in Lawrenceville, Georgia, Pro Shocks has helped drivers on both dirt and asphalt perform better for more than 25 years.
