Over $50,000 at the Atlantic CAT 250
Event Is Set For This Weekend at Scotia Speedworld
PR Report

The Atlantic CAT 250, Halifax’s most anticipated stock car racing weekend of the season, returns to Scotia Speedworld August 6th and 7th, for two days of full throttle excitement!  The prestigious two day event attracts the best stock car drivers from the Northeastern Seaboard and boasts an impressive list of past champions. The Atlantic CAT 250 is round two of three for the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour’s Triple Crown mini-series. Drivers and crews will be vying for a purse of almost $60,000.00 Saturday evening on the 3/10 mile oval, located adjacent to the Halifax International Airport.

The Atlantic CAT 250 weekend has a packed schedule full of interactive events for the whole family. Friday night features qualifying for the CAT 250 and the Sportsman 100. Following qualifying fans will have the rare opportunity to come onto the racing surface for an on track party featuring; a live DJ, corn boil, giant bouncy castles for the kids and the infamous dunk tank. New this year to the Friday night agenda is a Driver Auction in support of the Maritime Motorsport Hall of Fame. Fans will have an opportunity to mingle and bid on their favorite drivers! The successful bidders of the top three finishing drivers in the CAT 250 feature on Saturday will share in half of the money raised during the auction; the other half of the money raised will go to the Maritime Motorsport Hall of Fame to support their efforts in maintaining the Hall of Fame and the exhibits it contains. Gates open at 5:00pm on Friday night, racing starts at 7:00pm and the track party and driver auction will get underway immediately following qualifying.

Approximately 30 drivers will attempt to make the illustrious field but only 26 will have a shot at the prestigious CAT 250 title on Saturday night. The expected entry list is a virtual who’s who of short track racing and includes the likes of two-time CAT 250 winner Ben Rowe (Turner, ME). 2000 CAT 250 winner and past CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour Champ John Flemming (Halifax, NS) and other past Pro Stock Tour Champions Wayne Smith (Timberlea, NS) Shawn Tucker (Fredericton, NB) and reigning Champion and points leader Shawn Turple (Enfield, NS). PASS North and South competitor Cassuis Clark will be making the trip to Nova Scotia from Augusta ME, as he will pilot the #5 ride of Tour regular Jonathan Hicken.

Saturday’s festivities get underway at 5:00pm with a 100 lap Sportsman feature which should keep fans on the edge of their seat leading up to the main event….the Atlantic CAT 250. Immediately following the Sportsman race is a Pro Stock Tour autograph session, followed by opening ceremonies and the Atlantic CAT 250!

Admission for Friday night is $10.00 for adults, $2.00 for youth (8-15 years old); pit admission is $15.00.  Admission for Saturday’s Atlantic CAT 250 is $35.00 for adults; $5.00 for youth; pit admission is $40.00.  Two day passes are also available - adults are $40.00, two day pit passes are $45.00.  Children 7 and under are admitted for free all weekend.  All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
