Quarter Master's Clutch Performance of the Week
Who Came Through in The Clutch This Time?
As Decided by the Staff of Speed51.com
Performing in the clutch is what seperates a winning driver from the rest of the pack.  Flexing muscle at the right time is something that true talents posess.  Often luck plays a big role in winning versus losing, but being able to squeeze just enough strength out at the perfect opportunity is what separates winners from losers.  Performing in the clutch doesn't necessarily mean winning, however; it's all about making the most from what you've got.

That's why Quarter Master, providers of winning clutches & driveline components to racers from Super Speedway to the Bullring, from IRL to Rally, from NASCAR to the "Weekend Warrior," is proud to honor a weekly "Clutch Performance of the Week" from the short track ranks of America.  Each week, an esteemed panel of short track industry insiders will vote on which drivers came through in the clutch.  The driver or team with the most votes will then be the "Clutch Performance of the Week."  At the end of the 2010 season, the driver or team that received the most votes throughout the season will then be the "Clutch Performer of the Year" and will be awarded a clutch kit from Quarter Master, valued at $3,500 - just like the 2008 Quarter Master Clutch Performer of the Year winner Eddie MacDonald and the 2009 winner Jeff Fultz.

This week's "Quarter Master Clutch Performance of the Week" goes to ...
Brian Campbell
#20 CRA Super Series Super Late Model

To be Brian Campbell in any race at Berlin Raceway (MI) has got to be tough and full of pressure.  The fans expect you to win because it's your home track and your father is the legendary Fred Campbell.  You've posted some big numbers in the past there too, so anything other than a victory is a disappointment.  That kind of performance pressure would lead many lesser drivers to fall flat on their face.

But Campbell isn't known for losing - so even when big guns like NASCAR Truck Series champion Johnny Benson (driving a Kyle Busch Motorsports Super Late Model) and defending CRA champion Johnny Van Doorn showed up at Berlin to race, Campbell still maintained his winning ways.

In Saturday's CRA Super Series race at Berlin, Campbell passed Benson for the lead on lap 35 of 125 and never looked back from there.  The victory tied him with his father Fred for winning the most CRA events at Berlin.

That performance allowed Brian Campbell to be named as the winner of this week's Speed51.com Quarter Master Clutch Performance of the Week award.

Here is one of our panelist comments on Campbell this week...

"Brian Campbell CRA Super Series Berlin Raceway was Fast Qualifier and won the 125 CRA race over a tough group of locals and CRA drivers including Johnny Benson Jr. in Kyle Busch's car."

Here are our honorable mentions for this week:

Justin Wakefield (PASS South) - The pressure was on late in the PASS South race at Wake County Speedway (NC).  The event was dubbed the Capital City Clash and a clash it was, with contestants for the victory beating, banging and spinning all around.  But Justin Wakefield rose to the occasion and broke on through the win his first race of the year.  In was also his first top 10 finish of the year, so the pressure was on to post a strong finish.  Wakefield definitely delivered.

Pete Brittain (Mods) - It's tough to win a Tour-type Modified feature at Wall Stadium, so to win two on the same night is even tougher.  Nevertheless, Pete Brittain doubled up in twin Modified features on Saturday night and earned an honorable mention in the chase for the Speed51.com Quarter Master Clutch Performance of the Week award.

Mother Nature - It was Mothers Day weekend and Mother Nature really stole the show in the racing world.  Dozens and dozens of races and practice sessions from Maine to Wisconsin to Montana were canceled due to the weather, which led for Mother Nature to earn a vote in this week's Speed51.com Quarter Master Clutch Performance of the Week award.

Quarter Master salutes Brian Campbell on this week’s Quarter Master Clutch Performance of the Week award.
