Pro Shocks Shock of the Week
This Week's Big Surprise in Short Track Racing
As Decided by the Staff of Speed51.com
Every week, our esteemed panel at Speed51.com will determine the most improbable, fascinating or "shocking" moment from the week and award the Pro Shocks "Shock of the Week." The winner each week will receive a product gift certificate from Pro Shocks, the leader in short track shock technology and performance. At the end of the season, the most "shocking" moment will be awarded the "Shock of the Year" and the winning driver will receive a special gift from Pro Shocks.
For this week's "Shock of the Week..."
Who is Jimmy Weller?
That's a question that many people were asking last weekend after hearing that Weller won the PASS South Super Late Model race at South Boston Speedway (VA). Weller held off his teammate Ryan Blaney to take the victory in the event.
That performance earned Jimmy Weller this week's Speed51.com Pro Shocks "Shock of the Week" award.
Weller scored a strong victory among our panelists this week.
And to answer the earlier question, Weller is a 24-year-old Ohio native who recently moved to North Carolina to drive some Super Late Model races for the Blaney team. His background is on dirt, with pelnty of laps in 410 Sprints and Modifieds, and he just recently made the switch to asphalt Late Model racing. So far, it looks like that switch is going very well.
Also receiving votes this week were:
Patrick Sheltra (ARCA) - Patrick Sheltra raised some eyebrows when he backed up his recent ARAC victory ont he dirt at Springfield with another one on the speedway at Chicagoland. That earned him this vote.
"Patrick Sheltra's virtuoso ARCA 2 in a row gets my vote for the week," wrote one of our panelists.
Justin Johnson (LMSC) - Shocking our panel isn't always a good thing, as was the case this past weekend for Justin Johnson, who scored this vote:
"A terrible showing in both 75 lap features at South Boston for points leader Justin Johnson gets my vote for Shock of the Week."
Steve Moulton (LM) - Late Model standout Steve Moulton received a lifetime ban from the track owner this week after he stopped his car under caution laps and got out to argue a racing call and then later on bumped another driver's car on the cool down lap after the race. This led to this vote from one of our panelists:
"Steve Moulton's lifetime ban from Speedway 95. I'll set the over/under for the 2012 season opener on when he's allowed to return."
For his “Shock” of a performance, Jimmy Weller will receive a product gift certificate from Pro Shocks, the short-track leader in racing shock technology and performance. Based in Lawrenceville, Georgia, Pro Shocks has helped drivers on both dirt and asphalt perform better for more than 25 years.
