Pro Shocks Shock of the Week
This Week's Big Surprise in Short Track Racing
As Decided by the Staff of

Every week, our esteemed panel at will determine the most improbable, fascinating or "shocking" moment from the week and award the Pro Shocks "Shock of the Week."  The winner each week will receive a product gift certificate from Pro Shocks, the leader in short track shock technology and performance.  At the end of the season, the most "shocking" moment will be awarded the "Shock of the Year" and the winning driver will receive a special gift from Pro Shocks.

For this week's "Shock of the Week..."
Nobody was shocked at the fact that Preston Peltier won last weekend's PASS South Orange Blossom Special 125 at Orange County Speedway (NC), but the guy finishing in second place was a surprise to many.

Daniel Hemric took the runner-up spot after entering only his second "big car" race.  While the young man had won just about everything he could in Legends cars, his Late Model career was new.  Before Orange County, his only race was in a BDI Racing Pro Late Model at Concord Speedway, where he set a new track record in qualifying and then finished second in his feature.

But Pro Late Models at Concord aren't exactly the same thing as the PASS South tour, so at Orange County a solid top 10 or top 15 finish would have been a success gor Hemric.  To go and nearly win the race?  Well, that is nothing short of being shocking.

That performance earned Daniel Hemric this week's Pro Shocks "Shock of the Week" award.

Here were a few of our panelist comments:

"Daniel Hemric..."Who?...never heard of him...and he finished 2nd among a tough crowd at the PASS race."

"Daniel Hemric, and this had better be near-unanimous."  (Editor's Note - Well actually, it wasn' on to find out more)

"Daniel Hemric turned in a stellar performance at Orange County Speedway, finishing second in only his first PASS Late Model race. While he has already proven himself in Legends cars, I don't think most observers would have expected such a phenomenal first run in the PASS series."

Also receiving votes this week were:

Dakoda Armstrong (ARCA) - When it came to the weekly awards this time by, Dakoda Armstrong was the Bridsmaid two times over.  Earlier this week, we found out that Armstrong was the runner-up in an extremely close battle for the Quarter Master Clutch Performance of the Week award.  Now, we learn that Armstrong did nearly the exact same thing when he came one vote shy of tying Daniel Hemric in the battle for the Pro Shock "Shock of the Week" award.

Armstrong wasn't the runner up at Talladega Superspeedway though.  That is where he broke through to win his first ARCA Racing Series event after some fancy footwork in the closing laps of the event.

The Pro All Stars Series - The forecast looked dreadful and not many people really expected to get the PASS South Orange Blossom Special 125 to the finish without at least a rain delay.  But series officals gave it their best shot and the race ran to its completion before rain started to fall in victory lane.  Duping Mother Nature?  That's shocking and earned the PASS officials a vote this week with this comment.

"PASS [is my vote] and that they got the show in, good for them."

Bobby Santos, III (WMT) -  By winning the pole position for the Spring Sizzler at Stafford Motor Speedway (CT) and setting a new track record in the process, Bobby Santos, III earned a vote in the Pro Shock award competition this week - even though his race was rain-delayed until this Saturday.

Here is what the ballot cast for Santos said:

"Santos... Big Day at Stafford. Track Record, but it's the first time in history that qualifying went over the elusive 100mph average lap."

For his “Shock” of a performance, Hemric will receive a product gift certificate from Pro Shocks, the short-track leader in racing shock technology and performance.  Based in Lawrenceville, Georgia, Pro Shocks has helped drivers on both dirt and asphalt perform better for more than 25 years.
