A quartet of drivers – including last year’s pole position winner – have already entered the 2010 edition of the World Crown 300 at Gresham Motorsports Park.
Chase Elliott, who was the first driver to set fast time on the all-new GMP half-mile oval when it re-opened last November, has entered both the Pro and Super Late Model portions of the 27th-Annual event scheduled for Thursday-Sunday, November 11-14, 2010. This year’s racing classic will feature a 125-lap Pro Late Model event on Saturday, November 13 as well as the Super Late Model 300-lap World Crown headliner on Sunday, November 14.
Also joining Elliott as early entries for the event are Chris Davidson of Pearland, TX, Johnny Henderson of Conyers, GA and Johanna Long from Pensacola, FL. Like Elliott, Davidson, Henderson and Long have all entered both the Pro and Super Late Model World Crown 300 weekend events.
All four drivers will be looking to take home the lion’s share of the more than $170,000 in prize money that will be up for grabs in this year’s World Crown 300. Sunday’s 300-lap Super Late Model main event will pay $20,000 to win and $1,250 to start while Saturday’s 125-lap Pro Late Model winner will take home $7,000.
According to Gresham Motorsports Park General Manager Dan Elliott, early registration for the event could be the key to winning one of Stock Car Racing’s biggest weekends.
“We’re offering an incentive to our Super and Pro Late Model teams who register early for the 2010 World Crown 300,” said Elliott. “We’ll be parking transporters, lining up for technical inspection, allowing tire selection and setting the qualifying positions all by the date that we receive a team’s registration form. Having first crack at all those things is going to give the teams who register early a leg up on the competition. Considering how many great cars and drivers we expect for this event, every little bit is going to help.”
The 2010 World Crown 300 weekend will roll off with a two-hour practice on Thursday, November 11. Friday’s action will be highlighted by a full program of US International Legends, Bandoleros and Thunder Cars as well as feature events in the Outlaw Late Model and Renegade Street Stock divisions. Pole position qualifying for Sunday’s Super Late Model World Crown 300 will cap Friday’s on-track activities.
The Pro Late Model division – featuring a total purse of $35,000 - will burn up the GMP half-mile oval in a 125-lap main event on Saturday, November 13. A 75-lap Truck Series main event paying $2,000 to win and $200 to start will also highlight Saturday’s World Crown 300 action.
Rules, registration and W-9 forms for the Super, Pro and Outlaw Late Models, Renegade and Truck divisions are posted in the World Crown section on www.GreshamMotorsportsPark.com.
Please note that approved head and neck restraint systems are mandatory for all divisions.
Teams are also advised that because of insurance regulations and security concerns, they will not be able to stay overnight in their transporters or RV’s parked in the infield during the 2010 World Crown 300 weekend.
An open test for all Super, Pro and Outlaw Late Models, Trucks, Renegades, USAR Pro Cup and NASCAR K&N Pro Series competitors will be held on Saturday, February 27. The public is welcome to view the test free of charge from the GMP grandstand area.
