Cup Driver Got Started Running Legends at AMS
Track PR Report
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series star and Georgia-native David Ragan will enter the Georgia Best Chevy Dealers 150 late model race at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Friday, Sept. 3.

The Georgia Best Chevy Dealers 150 is sanctioned by the Southern Superstars Short Track Series and will take place on Atlanta Motor Speedway’s quarter-mile “Thunder Ring,” the same short track where a youthful Ragan claimed nine wins in a Bandolero and Legends car. Now, many years later, Ragan will look for a win in the super late model race scheduled for an 8:45 p.m. start.

"It's always fun to go back to Atlanta to race anything and the schedule this year has allowed me to bring our late model Ford down there,” said Ragan, an Unadilla native.  “Friday night's race should be exciting and challenging. Chris Dilbeck, who's also an Atlanta guy, will be my crew chief Friday night.

“I grew up racing there in the Legends car series, so [Atlanta is] a special place to me,” Ragan added. “Having all those full-size cars on the quarter-mile [track] will be a lot of fun to watch."

In addition to competing in the Georgia Best Chevy Dealers 150, Ragan will also take part in a NASCAR Question-and-Answer Session prior to the race at 6:00 p.m. as part of the Friday Fan Fest presented by Your Georgia Best Chevy Dealers. The Question-and-Answer Session will also feature NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers Jeff Burton and Clint Bowyer and the event will be moderated by SPEED television personality Rutledge Wood.

The Friday Fan Fest presented by Your Georgia Best Chevy Dealers will include the NASCAR Question-and-Answer Session at 6:00 p.m., a concert by Drivin’ N Cryin’ and a Southern Superstars Short Track Series autograph session at 6:35 p.m., and the Georgia Best Chevy Dealers 150 at 8:45 p.m.

Other Georgia drivers expected to compete in the Georgia Best Chevy Dealers 150 include: Lee Hansard of Tyrone, who sits third in the Southern Superstars points standings; Bobby Castleberry of Rossville, who is fifth in points; and Bubba Pollard of Senoia.

The biggest Labor Day party in the USA is at Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Emory Healthcare 500 race weekend on Sept. 3 -5. For more information or to purchase tickets, contact the Atlanta Motor Speedway Ticket Office at (770) 946-4211, (877) 9-AMS-TIX, or visit www.atlantamotorspeedway.com.
