Flannery Wins First Legends Race at NHMS Oval
NELCAR Legends Put on Show During Morning of Cup Race
Series PR Report
The Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour another milestone event this past weekend.  After the three years of closed door development, and just four months after the road course race, the Tour opened for the Nascar Sprint Cup Series race on the new Legends Oval.  With 24 many of New Englands best Legends Car drivers set to do battle on the quarter mile oval, it was going to be a great opening to the best drivers in the world.

The starting field was set by times from practice.  Anthony Flannery, the champion from Waterford Speedbowl, was on the pole with Nick Ladyga in the 38X on the outside.  After a few attempts at getting the race started after a few spins, the field went green and Flannery jumped out the early lead.  Early on the 13X of Paul Blenkhorn from Nova Scotia moved into second.  The race didn't get many green flag laps consecutively early on, as the drivers were having a hard time adapting to the new track.

The second half of the 20 lap feature however showed the field doing getting used to the conditions, and the top drivers, Flannery, Blenkhorn, Ladyga and George Whitney were battling hard to get the first Legends oval win.  With just four laps to go, the yellow came out for the final time with Flannery and Ladyga back in the front two spots.  While the field behind him was battling hard for every position, Flannery seemed to be in a league of his own up front, as he took the first checkered flag at the new Legends oval at New Hampshire Motor Speedway!  Finishing in second was Nick Ladyga, with Whitney in third.  Paul and Dylan Blenkhorn rounded out the top five.  The first Nelcar regular was Bob Weymouth, finishing sixth.

While this track is much different than most of the drivers were used too, with heavy braking and hard, sharp corners, the driver's adapted well and put on a great show in front of the thousands of fans who packed the track for the Nascar race held later that day.  This is only the first race at the Legends oval, and there is going to be many races held at the Speedway in 2011 under the Nelcar banner.

The next race for the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour is Saturday, September 25th at the rough and tough Unity Raceway.  It is the Tour's final race of 2010, and with Bob Weymouth and Evan Beaulieu separated by only nine points, it is set to be a great race with the point's battle going right down to the final lap.  Racing starts at 5:30 PM.  For more news, info and how you could get into a Legends Car and race at NHMS in 2011, visit Nelcar.net.
