The ASA OREGON Midwest Truck Tour had another great race this past Sunday afternoon at Elko Speedway in conjunction with the American Speed Association® Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment and grandstay.net. Driver of the #73 Pathfinder Chassis truck, Jerry Wood hung on to take his second consecutive feature victory of the season. "The truck was really good. Bill Collins made me work really hard, so it wasn't easy. Well, it's never easy, but it was a lot of fun today," exclaimed Jerry Wood.
Vince Wilkenson and Interstate Truck Driving School driver, Bill Collins led the field to the green flag for the 40 lap main event. Collins jumped out in front to take the early lead. The first caution of the day was on lap three when Nate Anderson spun on the backstretch. On lap 14, the battle for the lead started to heat up when John Wood and Conrad Jorgenson were able to get by Collins. The two got together on the next lap sending both to restart at the rear of the field.
Bill Collins once again inherited the lead, but Jerry Wood challenged Collins on the inside and took over the top spot with twenty laps remaining. With only ten laps to go, the top five were putting on a hard-fought battle for all five positions. Jerry Wood re-inherited the lead on lap 30, while Conrad Jorgenson and John Wood were quickly moving back up through the field.
On lap 35, Jorgenson and John Wood squeezed by lapped traffic with Jorgenson coming out ahead of Wood. "This was the best truck I've ever had here. I was really happy about getting back up to second after having to restart in the rear," added Jorgenson.
Jerry Wood was able to hold on for the victory followed by Conrad Jorgenson and John Wood. The driver of the #40 truck, Tom McClintock and the #63 of Bill Collins rounded out the top five.
Despite being sent to the back, John Wood was enthusiastic with his finish and looks forward to battling against brother Jerry throughout the season. "My truck was really good. Pathfinder builds such an awesome truck and I couldn't do it without any of my guys," said Wood. "I dreamed about racing against my brother my whole life and am I'm really excited about heading to Cedar Rapids."
The Elko event will be televised on Saturday, June 19th at 11:30AM CDT on Fox Sports North and Fox Sports Wisconsin.
The next stop for the ASA OREGON Midwest Truck Tour is this Friday, June 11th at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids, IA along with the ASA Midwest Tour and ASA Midwest Sportsman Tour.
