ASA MW PR Report

RK Race Promotions and American Speed Association® Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment and Grandstay® Residential Suites Hotels officials are proud to announce that they will be working together for the Sixth Annual All-Star Challenge event scheduled for Tuesday, June 29th at Madison International Speedway, an ASA Member Track in Oregon, WI.  The event will star Sprint Cup Champions Matt Kenseth and Tony Stewart competing with the ASAMT Touring Stars and competitors in a 100-lap feature event.

“After doing this event for the last four years as an independent event, I felt it was time to invite the ASA Midwest Tour to come and help run it,” Roy Kenseth, Owner of RK Race Promotions said.  “We worked an event together two years ago at the Milwaukee Mile and I felt that everything ran smoothly and the fans saw some great racing by the competitors who compete in their series.  Plus, my grandson Ross will be running for Rookie of the Year this year in the ASAMT, so I felt this was the best time to have them on board for this event.”

“We are excited to be working with Roy Kenseth again especially with his signature event,” Tim Olson, ASAMT President said.  “We are also looking forward to having two premiere drivers in Matt Kenseth and Tony Stewart compete with our ASAMT Touring Stars and competitors.  I think short track fans will enjoy this event.”

The addition of this event to the ASAMT schedule would have given their competitors a three day turn around to the next event.  In order to avoid this, ASAMT officials have announced that their event at Hawkeye Downs originally scheduled for Friday, July 2nd has been moved up to Friday, June 11th.  “Many of our competitors and their crews will have full-time jobs and it will be very tough for many of them to have enough time to finish one event and turn to get ready for another three days later,” Steve Einhaus, ASAMT Vice-president said.  “So, we talked to Hawkeye Downs and agreed to the Friday, June 11th date.”

Einhaus is also excited about having the ASAMT part of The Swiss Colony All-Star Challenge, “I have attended the four previous events at MIS and just in awe on the excitement it creates, the fans who turn out and the great racing it has produced.  For us to be involved with the 2010 running of this event is a great opportunity for the ASAMT.  We will make this one of our televised events on Fox Sports North and Fox Sports Wisconsin and it will give us and our competitors a lot of exposure.”

The ASA Midwest Sportsman Tour will also be in action on June 29th in support of the main event.  Their event will be part of the television broadcast.

The first All-Star Challenge event took place in 2005 at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna, WI.  Jeff Van Oudenhoven held off Nathan Haseleu and Rod Wheeler to win the event which featured Kenseth along with his Roush-Fenway teammate Carl Edwards.  Edwards would finish fifth in that event holding off Kenseth who was sixth.

In 2006, Roy Kenseth moved the event to Madison International Speedway and welcomed Tony Stewart to the event for the first time.  Kelly Bires would hold off Kenseth for the win with Bobby Wilberg in third.  Stewart was seventh.

In 2007, Kenseth would take the victory over Mark Eswein and Haseleu while Stewart finished seventh for the second year in a row.

The last two years saw ASAMT Touring Stars in victory lane.

2009 ASAMT Champion Steve Carlson would hold off Kenseth for the win in the 2008 edition of the event with Andrew Morrissey in third.  Stewart finished in sixteenth after being involved in a spin earlier in the race.

Last year, the fifth annual event saw Chris Wimmer get by Kenseth in the closing laps of the race to take the win.  Morrissey was third with Nathan Haseleu in fourth.  Stewart rounded out the top-five.

Advance tickets are currently on sale via mail order only.  There is still a limited amount of Hospitality Packages available at $125 a person which includes a meet & greet with Matt and Tony.  Regular general admission tickets are also currently on sale as well as spectator pit passes (some restrictions do apply to the pit pass, see note on the order form).
