Bryan Wordelman and his wife Amy had one question on their mind when he won the 2010 Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil ASA Member Track National Championship earlier this month, when will he get his tryout? He now knows the answer as it will be on Tuesday, October 26 at Ace Speedway, an ASA Member Track in Altamahaw, NC.
"We are excited to be hosting the tryout," Brad Allen, Ace Speedway Promoter said. "This is a big feather in our cap to not only host this but to have one of Joe Gibbs Racing's teams here to use our track for a test session. I think they will really like what we have to offer and this will be the first of many visits by them and other teams to come and test at Ace Speedway. We are also proud to be an ASA Member Track as they are always looking to do what they can for their tracks and competitors. Their National Championship proves that by giving a weekly competitor this great opportunity."
Ace Speedway became an ASA Member Track earlier this year and had one of their most successful seasons under the Allen's leadership. The 4/10-mile paved oval with 12 degree banking in the corners, is located in Alamance County, North Carolina, just off Hwy 87N above Elon University. It is widely regarded as a premier racing facility.
"I had an opportunity to visit Ace Speedway on their opening night this season and I was very impressed with everything I saw," Dennis Huth, ASA President said. "We are very proud to have them as an ASA Member Track and excited that Joe Gibbs Racing chose their track for this special test session and tryout for our 2010 National Champion."
This will be the second year that the tryout will take place at an ASA Member Track. Last year's champion Tommy Cloce had his tryout at Dillon Motor Speedway, an ASA Member Track in Dillon, SC. "We were excited to have hosted the tryout and have Joe Gibbs Racing use our 4/10-mile oval," Ron Barfield, Jr. Dillon Motor Speedway Promoter said. "Tommy got a lot of seat time in high class race car with a high class team at a high class racing facility. We are excited to see another ASA Member Track get this opportunity."
Wordelman, along with his wife and father, will arrive in Charlotte on Monday afternoon where they will go right to JGR's Nationwide shop to be fitted in the car they will be using for the tryout on Tuesday. After that, the tentative schedule will have him sit down with a one-on-one meeting with JD Gibbs, President of Joe Gibbs Racing. He may also get an opportunity to meet Coach Joe Gibbs as well.
Wordelman won the Maverik Modified division at Rocky Mountain Raceways, an ASA Member Track in West Valley City, UT last month to be eligible for the National Championship. The 27-year-old from North Salt Lake City will be making his first ever visit to the Charlotte area.
"All of the racing community here in Utah is really excited for Bryan's opportunity to show his skills to the Joe Gibbs camp," Mike Eames, Rocky Mountain Raceways General Manager said. "We all know how good of a driver he is. Now, he gets a real opportunity to display his talents to a world renown racing organization."
Eames also did say that Wordelman was at the track last week getting some seat time in a late model and a K&N Pro Series car in preparation for the tryout.
Tuesday, October 26, will be spent all day at Ace Speedway for the tryout with Wednesday, October 27 as the rain date if needed.
Fans are invited to attend the tryout on Tuesday with free grandstand admission.
