The month of May is a popular time of the year in auto racing, especially for the ASA Member Tracks and sanctioned series as everyone will be in action this month. Here is a peak of what is happening this weekend.
ASA MIDWEST TOUR, ASA MIDWEST SPORTSMAN TOUR, ASA MIDWEST TRUCK TOUR
(Madison International Speedway, an ASA Member Track in Oregon, WI)
The fourth season of the ASA Midwest Tour Super Late Model Series will kick off this Sunday, May 2 with the 2nd Annual Joe Shear Classic at Wisconsin's Fastest Half-Mile Oval. Over 44 cars are already pre-entered for the 136-lap event. Joining the Super Late Models will be the ASA Midwest Sportsman Tour and the ASA Midwest Truck Tour in their debuts.
ASA PRO AUTO SPORTS, BONDURANT CHAMPIONSHIP RACE SERIES
(Firebird International Raceway, Chandler, AZ)
Two of the finest ASA-sanctioned road course series will be in action at the famous Firebird International Raceway this weekend. The Bondurant Championship Race Series has a tight points battle between three drivers.
ISCARS DASH TOURING SERIES SANCTIONED BY ASA
(Hickory Motor Speedway, Hickory, NC)
The popular compact car series kicks off its 2010 season this Saturday night at the famous Hickory Motor Speedway. It will also mark the debut of the new Honda Accord that was unveiled at the 2009 Performance Racing Industry Trade Show in December. Will Danny Bagwell continue his winning streak or will 1986 Daytona 500 champion Geoff Bodine have something to say about that?
ASA IRA OUTLAW SPRINT CAR SERIES
(Beaver Dam Raceway, Beaver Dam, WI)
After suffering a rainout last weekend. The ASA IRA Outlaw Sprint Car Series will head down the road to Beaver Dam Raceway for their first visit at the 1/3-mile clay oval. It will be a great night for 410 Winged Sprint action.
ASA NORTHWEST LATE MODEL TOUR
(South Sound Speedway, Rochester, WA)
The second of the 2010 season is set for this Saturday night at South Sound Speedway located near Tenino, WA. The IPM 125 will feature some of the best Northwest Super Late Model drivers as they tour around the 3/8-mile oval.
ASA MEMBER TRACKS
It will be a busy weekend as Ace Speedway will have two nights of racing action. On Friday night, the Limited Sportsman, Modifieds and Extreme divisions will be in action. Then on Saturday, the UARA Late Models will be competing in a 150-lap feature event. The Mini-Stocks, SGP Sportsman, and SGP Modifieds will also be in action.
BIG COUNTRY SPEEDWAY
The first ever ASA sanctioned event in the state of Wyoming will take place this Saturday night at Big Country Speedway, located just outside of Cheyenne, WY. The Super Stocks, MOD4, Micro Sprints, Warriors, Dwarfs, and Legends will be in action. Main gates open at 3 p.m. with racing at 6 p.m.
DELLS RACEWAY PARK
(Wisconsin Dells, WI)
The 1/3-mile oval located just outside of the popular tourist destination will host its season opener this Saturday night with the Cabin Fever 75 for their Late Model division. Also in action will be the Sportsman, Bandits, Pure Stocks and the ALL NEW Six Shooters. Racing begins at 6:30 p.m.
DESOTO SUPER SPEEDWAY
After a week off, Desoto Super Speedway is back in action this week with a full line-up of racing. The 4-Cyl Figure 8's, 4-Cyl Road Course, Flyin 4's, Magic 4's, Mini Stocks, Modified Minis, Pure Stocks, and Bombers will be competing this Saturday night. Gates open at 5 p.m. with racing at 7 p.m.
DILLON MOTOR SPEEDWAY
It will be a great night of racing at Dillon Motor Speedway with a full line-up planned. The Late Models will have a 50-lap feature along with the Chargers, Street Stocks, 4-cylinder, and Jr. Bombers in action. Plus, bike races for the kids on the frontstretch. Racing gets underway at 8:00 p.m.
EAST BAY RACEWAY PARK
Yes race fans, that's right! Double Features for two classes this weekend. Mother Nature shortened the program last week, so it will be the Racecar Engineering Late Models and the Outlaw 4's that run 2 Action Packed Features. Also running this weekend is the Limited Late Models, Street Stocks, Old Time Mods and the Dirt Daubers. Gates open up at 5 p.m., Hot Laps around 6 p.m. and the Action begins around 6:30 p.m. Ticket Prices are Seniors 55 & Up - $10 - Adults $12 - Teens 13-17 - $7 and Kids 12 & under are FREE (with paying adult).
GRAYS HARBOR RACEWAY
They say that the third time is a charm, so hopefully the 2010 racing season gets under way at the ASA track member Grays Harbor Raceway this Saturday Night at the fast 3/8's clay oval located at the Fairgrounds in Elma, Washington. After rain has delayed the opener for the last two weeks, racers and fans alike are ready for some action. Local divisions taking to the track for their first points race of the year, include Whitney's Auto Group 360 ASCS Sprint Cars, Shipwreck Beads Modifieds, the Cut Rate Auto Parts Hobby Stocks and the Hornets. Racing starts at 6:30 p.m.
HARTFORD MOTOR SPEEDWAY
Hartford Motor Speedway Season Opener begins with Van Buren County Night $2.00 off general admission with driver's license. Kids 10 and under free with paid adult. General admission $ 10.00 gates open at 6 pm, hot laps for UMP Late Models, UMP Modified, Stock cars and Pure Stocks, racing begins at 8 pm on Friday night.
HAVASU 95 SPEEDWAY
(Lake Havasu City, AZ)
Havasu 95 Speedway will present there final race of the 2009-2010 race season on May 1st. The evenings events will include Lake Havasu's Famous Asphalt Boat Races, Factory Stock Championship with 50 lap Enduro, Bandolero Championship (30 laps - Sam Nichols Electric 750), and Demolition Derby. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. with racing at 7:00 p.m.
ILLIANA MOTOR SPEEDWAY
Anthony "The Boss" Danta and Fast Eddie Hoffman head the list of local talent to take on the traveling drivers as the Michigan based ASA LATE MODEL SERIES visits the Historic Illiana Motor Speedway, an American Speed Association sanctioned track for the second annual "Run for the Roses" 100-lap main event Sat. Nite May 1st. Josh Nelms of Lockport, IL a former track champion and Robbie Pyle in the John Brolick owned mount are also entered. Also on the night's card will be the Van Senus Auto Parts Turbo Stocks, the "Wild & Crazy Pure Stocks and "First time ever" Super Cups on the quarter mile. Grandstands will open at 4pm, qualifying at 5:30 and Racing is scheduled to start at 7pm. The pit gate will open 10:30 am.
The World of Outlaws Sprint Cars will kick off the 2010 season at Jackson Speedway along with the IMCA Sport Mods. The WoO winner will take home $10,000.
This Saturday marks the debut of the Hometown Team Racing Series with a double main event for the ESI Express ASA Modifieds, a return of the Pepsi Sprintcars, a 50-lap main event for the College of Western Idaho Professional Truck Driving School Street Stocks, the Tates Hornets and the 2010 debut of the Thunder Dogs. It's also the first Racing for Smiles of the Northwest night at the racetrack.
ORANGE SHOW SPEEDWAY
(San Bernardino, CA)
Orange Show Speedway is having a birthday party this week. The first race at a track that began life as a clay oval built around a football field was on Thursday, May 1, 1947. Bill Zaring won that night's main event for United Racing Association Midgets. This weekend, the quarter-mile paved oval turns 64 on Saturday, May 1, and Best in the West Racing is celebrating the milestone with a racing program that includes the ASA Super Late Models, Team Too Pony Stocks, Interstate Batteries Factory Fours, Stock OHV Karts and a Trailer race. Gates open to the public at 4 p.m., the on-track autograph session is from 5:50 to 6:30 p.m. and the first race is scheduled for 7 p.m.
RED RIVER SPEEDWAY
(North Wichita Falls, TX)
Another great of racing action is on tap with the Hornets, Chargers, Thunderstock, Mod 4, and Bombers in action. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. with racing at 8:00 p.m.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN RACEWAYS
(West Valley City, UT)
It's the season opener this Saturday night on the super oval at Rocky Mountain Raceways. A great lineup is on tap with the USAC Sprint Cars, Maverik Modifieds, Super Stocks, Hornets, Figure 8's, Western States Figure 8 Trains. Gates open at 4 p.m. with qualifying at 5 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m.
SHANGRI LA II MOTOR SPEEDWAY
(Tioga Center, NY)
The Concrete Duals on May 1 promise to be a spectacular kickoff to the 2010 season with dual main events in each division. The Modifieds will double up on 25-lap features, the ASA Late Models and Sportsman Modifieds will contest a pair of 20-lap main events, and the Street Stocks will go to the post for twin 15's. Pit gates open at 10:00 a.m. and grandstand gates at 11:30. The cars will hit the track for practice at 12:00 noon and the first heat is scheduled for 2:15 p.m.
Hopefully Mother Nature will cooperate this Saturday night to allow for a great evening of racing at Skagit Speedway. On tap, the Foothills Toyota Tundra Racing Series - Round II featuring 410, 360, Sportsman Sprint cars plus the Outlaw Hornets. Grandstands open at 5:30 p.m. with racing at 7 p.m.
SOUTHERN OREGON SPEEDWAY
Unfortunately, the races for Saturday, May 1st have been cancelled due to pit conditions.
The next race for Yakima Speedway is scheduled for next Saturday Night, May 1st, featuring the youth Hornets, Hornets, Pure Stocks, Bump To Pass and the Super Late Model Challenge Series. Gates open at 4:00, opening ceremonies at 6:00, side by side racing action to follow.
