Back-to-back ASA Truck Series Championships for Licata
Podium Finish in Season Finale Locks Down The Title
Team PR Report
With a third place finish in Saturday’s ASA TRUCK SERIES finale at I-10 Speedway in Blythe, Calif., 19 year-old Joey Licata, Jr. claimed his second straight championship in the series.

Driving for the storied United Nissan team, the member of Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle driver development program put together a dream season that included three wins, three poles, and seven podium finishes in nine starts.

In Saturday’s 100 lap feature, Licata started fourth on the tricky quarter mile oval.  Licata was freight trained on the outside groove back to seventh before finally making it to the preferred bottom line.

The early laps of the race went caution-free, allowing the top two trucks to pull away to a half track lead before Licata was able to work his way up to third.

Licata got the caution he needed with 16 laps to go that bunched the field up, but he had to contend with five lapped trucks between himself and second place.

Licata passed several of the lapped trucks but decided to play it safe and in the final laps to claim a third place finish and his second straight ASA TRUCK SERIES championship.

In addition to Licata winning the championship for United Nissan, his teammate Mike Herda claimed Rookie of the Year honors in a dominating 2010 season for the United Nissan team.

Licata’s ASA championship caps a huge season for the young up-and-coming talent, who competed in five NASCAR Late Model races with Tim Huddleson’s High Point Racing, winning a NASCAR Modified race with Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle, and running second in ARCA practice at Rockingham.

He visited eight different tracks on the season and accumulated a record of 17 starts, five poles, four wins, nine top-fives, and ten top-tens.

Licata recently tested for Penske Development team Cunningham Motorsports and is working on funding to run the full 2011 ARCA Racing Series schedule.

“I am very proud of what Joey was able to accomplish this season,” Driver Coach Ron Sutton said.  “Winning back-to-back ASA championships is another great achievement that has opened eyes across the country to Joey’s talents!”

More information will be announced soon on Joey Licata, Jr.’s future racing plans.  Potential sponsors can contact Joey Licata, Jr. for more information.
