Nick Sweet Wins Vermont Governor's Cup 100
Wins One of the Biggest Late Model Shows of the Year at T-Road

Barre’s Nick Sweet claims his second Thunder Road win of 2010 in the Carquest Governor’s Cup 100 on Friday, June 25. Sweet took the lead from the pole and battled with Montpelier’s Dave Pembroke throughout the 100 lap event. The two would swap the lead twelve times before Sweet got to the front for good on lap 94.
Pembroke would have to settle for third after Jamie Fisher got by in the closing laps. Senator Phil Scott claimed his third straight top five with a fourth followed by Mike Bailey in fifth. Eric Williams came from 19th to finish sixth while ACT Tour Rookie of the Year contender Austin Theriault climbed from 21st to finish seventh. Matt White, John Donahue and Rich Lowrey rounded out the top ten.
The Carquest Governor’s Cup was a ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway qualifier but Sweet already earned an invite for the Saturday, September 19th event with his win in the Merchants Bank 150 win earlier in the season.
The Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen feature was won by Essex’s Mike Billado. It was his first career win. He held of rookie Jason Corliss who claimed his career best finish in second. Josh Demers, Ricky Roberts and Mike Ziter rounded out the top five. David Finck, Pete Ainsworth, Tony Rossi, Tom Therrien and Joe Steffen completed the top ten.
Topsham’s Tim Campbell earned the win in the Allen Lumber Street Stocks and Junkyard Warriors main event. He held off David Whitcomb, Lloyd Blakely, Dave LaFleche and Travis Hull who completed the top five. Will Hennequin, Greg Adams, Jamie Davis, Danny Doyle and Ron Gabaree completed the top ten.
Cabot’s Ken Christman earned his fourth win of the season as the top finishing Warrior in the main event. Kevin Dodge, Fred Schroeder, Kevin Wheatley and Josh Erwin completed the top five.
Will Hennequin claimed the Allen Lumber Street Stocks and Junkyard Warriors Reserve Feature win.
Next Thursday, July 1 will be the Bond/WIX Tiger Tour 100 lapper at Thunder Road. The Tigers will be joined by the Late Models, Allen Lumber Street Stocks and Junkyard Warriors. Post time is 6:30pm.
