Some of the biggest short track races of Speedweeks can be heard by thousands of fans even if they are not in Florida this February. 51Sports and RaceTalkRadio.com announced today that they have partnered to provide live, flag-to-flag coverage of the Richie Evans Memorial “Tour-Type” Modified event and the Pete Orr Memorial Super Late Model finale from New Smyrna Speedway as part of the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing.
NASCAR on SPEED broadcaster Bob Dillner and a special guest from Speed51 Radio will provide live coverage of the Richie Evans Memorial, 100-lap event on Friday the 13th, while even more special guests will call the Pete Orr Memorial, 100-lap race on Saturday the 14th. Fans not able to make it to New Smyrna will be able to listen live on RaceTalkRadio.com for all the action by clicking on the “Listen Live” button on the upper right portion of the website.
“As a fan growing up in the Northeast, the racing at New Smyrna during Speedweeks was always a huge deal for my family and I as fans,” said Dillner. “I wish they had the magic of the Internet back then because I would have to wait a week until I got my racing paper to find out who did what on the track. During the past seven years we have brought fans even closer to the action in February with our Trackside Now coverage on Speed51.com and fans will be able to hear the race as well. I’m proud that we at Speed51 Radio and Dennis Michelsen and his group at RaceTalkRadio.com will be able to present these two races to the fans that can’t make it to New Smyrna this year.”
Speed51 Radio will also be providing daily updates, tentatively scheduled for a Wednesday debut, on all the action from the nine-night World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna Speedway on RaceTalkRadio.com. Every morning, fans will be able to check out audio highlights of the previous nights’ action from the staff of Speed51.com, the web’s leading asphalt short track website.
“Once again, the dynamic duo of Speed51.com and RaceTalkRadio.com will give short track racing fans their ultimate fix this weekend," said RTR co-owner Dennis Michelsen. "Those bad boy Mods and the Super Late Models from New Smyrna will be a one-two punch sure to thaw out racing fans from coast and coast and get them ready for a great season.”
The live coverage from New Smyrna will also bring a worldwide audience to the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing.
“Having the live coverage allows all the fans that weren’t able to come to New Smyrna this year to tune into their computers and know what’s going on here for our two biggest races of the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing,” said Joe Lewandoski, Marketing Manager of New Smyrna Speedway. “Hopefully, the folks that are tuning into this year’s races and enjoying the action on their computers will come down to New Smyrna next year. It’s a great opportunity to showcase these two events to listeners around the country and beyond.”
