Quarter Master's Clutch Performance of the Week
Who Came Through in The Clutch This Time?
As Decided by the Staff of Speed51.com
Performing in the clutch is what seperates a winning driver from the rest of the pack.  Flexing muscle at the right time is something that true talents posess.  Often luck plays a big role in winning versus losing, but being able to squeeze just enough strength out at the perfect opportunity is what separates winners from losers.  Performing in the clutch doesn't necessarily mean winning, however; it's all about making the most from what you've got.

That's why Quarter Master, providers of winning clutches & driveline components to racers from Super Speedway to the Bullring, from IRL to Rally, from NASCAR to the "Weekend Warrior," is proud to honor a weekly "Clutch Performance of the Week" from the short track ranks of America.  Each week, an esteemed panel of short track industry insiders will vote on which drivers came through in the clutch.  The driver or team with the most votes will then be the "Clutch Performance of the Week."  At the end of the 2009 season, the driver or team that received the most votes throughout the season will then be the "Clutch Performer of the Year" and will be awarded a clutch kit from Quarter Master, valued at $3,500 - just like the 2008 Quarter Master Clutch Performer of the Year winner Eddie MacDonald.

This week's "Quarter Master Clutch Performance of the Week" goes to ...
Brandon Ward - USARacing Pro Cup

This week, we had one of the closest battles ever for the Speed51.com Quarter Master Clutch Performance award.  Only three drivers received votes this time around, but the top two were separated by a single vote when the ballots were all counted.

In the end, it was Brandon Ward who got the nod for this week's Speed51.com Quarter Master Clutch Performance of the Week.

Ward won the USARacing Pro Cup event at Langely Speedway (VA) with a heavy heart.

During preparations for the event, his father Rick suffered a heart attack at the track.  He was rushed to the hospital, where he received two stents and a good prognosis.

Brandon got down to work though and came out on top in a wild race that even featured a little bit..okay, maybe a lot bit...of bumping and banging between series veterans Clay Rogers and Bobby Gill.

That kind of determination and drive is a great example of coming through in the clutch and earned Ward this week's nod.

Here are our honorable mentions this week:

Donny Lia (WMT) - Donny Lia came just one vote short of winning this week's Speed51.com Quarter Master Clutch Performance of the Week award.  Lia came out on top of a close battle with Ted Christopher to decide who would win the first ever NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race on the high banks of Bristol Motor Speedway (TN).  It was a pressure-packed event and Lia came through with flying colors.

The voters who did cast their ballots for Lia felt strongly about their choice.

"If this one isn't unanimous, it's probably because some panelists voted for their buddies," wrote on of our panelists.

Under normal circumstances, we might agree with him.  But it's not everyday that someone overcomes a family emergency to win like Brandon Ward did this past weekend.

Scott Hantz (CRA) - There were some really great Super Late Model racers assembled at Fairgrounds Speedway this weekend...not to mention Kyle Busch....but Scott Hantz beat them all and won the CRA Super Series race there on Sunday afternoon.

Quarter Master salutes Brandon Ward on this week’s Quarter Master Clutch Performance of the Week.
