Quarter Master's Clutch Performance of the Week
Who Came Through in The Clutch This Time?
As Decided by the Staff of Speed51.com
Performing in the clutch is what seperates a winning driver from the rest of the pack.  Flexing muscle at the right time is something that true talents posess.  Often luck plays a big role in winning versus losing, but being able to squeeze just enough strength out at the perfect opportunity is what separates winners from losers.  Performing in the clutch doesn't necessarily mean winning, however; it's all about making the most from what you've got.

That's why Quarter Master, providers of winning clutches & driveline components to racers from Super Speedway to the Bullring, from IRL to Rally, from NASCAR to the "Weekend Warrior," is proud to honor a weekly "Clutch Performance of the Week" from the short track ranks of America.  Each week, an esteemed panel of short track industry insiders will vote on which drivers came through in the clutch.  The driver or team with the most votes will then be the "Clutch Performance of the Week."  At the end of the 2009 season, the driver or team that received the most votes throughout the season will then be the "Clutch Performer of the Year" and will be awarded a clutch kit from Quarter Master, valued at $3,500 - just like the 2008 Quarter Master Clutch Performer of the Year winner Eddie MacDonald.

This week's "Quarter Master Clutch Performance of the Week" goes to ...
Earl Paules - #8 Modified

Everyone saw Earl Paules' poker face during Saturday night’s Hand Two Modified 100 Poker Series race at Mahoning Valley Speedway.  That poker face was a fierce one as Paules took the victory after a race where top competitors like Matt Hirschman, Eric Beers, Don Wagner and Jon Bennett all led laps.

For coming through in the clutch and beating those competitors, our panel has voted Earl Paules as the winner for the Speed51.com Quarter Master Clutch Performance of the Week award.

Also receiving votes this time around were -

Ryan Truex - Truex came a whisker short of winning the Speed51.com Clutch Performance of the Week award this time, but he didn't come short at all in the NASCAR Camping World East Series race at Watkins Glen International (NY) on Saturday.  Truex wrestled the lead away from Patrick Long after a Green-White-Checkered restart and held on to win his first career CW East race.

Matt McCall - McCall shook off the bad luck that has been plaguing him with his #23 Late Model and drove his #51 Late Model to victory at Orange County Speedway (NC) on Saturday night.

Jon McKennedy - After a great battle with Dwight Jarvis and Kirk Alexander, McKennedy came through in the clutch to win the True Value Modified Racing Series feature at Twin State Speedway (NH).

D.J. Kennington - Most people think of D.J. Kennington as a mid-pack, low-budget competitor in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, but the Canadian also has an impressive short track resume - having won races in both the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series and the ACT Late Model Tour.  Kennington returned to his homeland to enter the Canadian Tire Series race at Delaware Speedway (Ont.) this past weekend.  He shook off the rust well and won is his first series start since 2007.

Mike Rowe - After taking time away from touring, Mike Rowe has settled into a new ride in the Pro Series (Super Late Model) ranks at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway (ME).  He held off PASS North hotshoe D.J. Shaw to win Saturday night's 100-lapper at Beech Ridge.  This victory came in just Rowe's third start behind the wheel of the Dick Fowler-owned #66 machine.

Matt Sheppard - After a tough start to the 2009 season, Sheppard returned to victory lane in the DIRT Modified ranks this weekend.

Quarter Master salutes Earl Paules on this week’s Quarter Master Clutch Performance of the Week.
