Quarter Master's Clutch Performance of the Week
Who Came Through in The Clutch This Time?
As Decided by the Staff of Speed51.com
Performing in the clutch is what seperates a winning driver from the rest of the pack.  Flexing muscle at the right time is something that true talents posess.  Often luck plays a big role in winning versus losing, but being able to squeeze just enough strength out at the perfect opportunity is what separates winners from losers.  Performing in the clutch doesn't necessarily mean winning, however; it's all about making the most from what you've got.

That's why Quarter Master, providers of winning clutches & driveline components to racers from Super Speedway to the Bullring, from IRL to Rally, from NASCAR to the "Weekend Warrior," is proud to honor a weekly "Clutch Performance of the Week" from the short track ranks of America.  Each week, an esteemed panel of short track industry insiders will vote on which drivers came through in the clutch.  The driver or team with the most votes will then be the "Clutch Performance of the Week."  At the end of the 2009 season, the driver or team that received the most votes throughout the season will then be the "Clutch Performer of the Year" and will be awarded a clutch kit from Quarter Master, valued at $3,500 - just like the 2008 Quarter Master Clutch Performer of the Year winner Eddie MacDonald.

This week's "Quarter Master Clutch Performance of the Week" goes to ...
Rowan Pennink - #93 Modified

Rowan Pennink started out the 2009 racing season with a fine second place finish in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour race at Concord Speedway.  Late in the fall, he also finished second in the prestigious North South Shootout at the same track.

In between, there were plenty of other accomplishments for the Pennsylvania driver.  He finished second at Thunder Road Speedbowl (VT) and Thompson International Speedway (CT) in True Value Modified Racing Series competition.

Pennink also placed within the top five of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour point standings.  he even finished second in a Sunoco Modified feature at Thompson.

But the one thing that was missing was a victory.  Entering the Turkey Derby last weekend at Wall Stadium (NJ), the pressure was on for Pennink as it was his final chance to win in 2009.

In true Hollywood fashion, Pennink rose to the
occasion.  When everyone left Wall, it wasn't Jimmy Blewett, Matt Hirschman, Jamie Tomaino, Donny Lia, Ted Christopher or Pete Brittain who won the big show.  It was Pennink coming through under pressure to capture the victory.

That performance allowed Rowan Pennink to be named as the winner of this week's  Speed51.com Quarter Master Clutch Performance of the Week award.

Our voters gave Pennink a strong margin of victory in the balloting this week.

Here are our honorable mentions for this week:

Daniel Hemric (Legends) - Daniel Hemric has won just about everything that there is in Legends racing this season out of his home base of North Carolina, but that didn't mean squat in New Jersey this past weekend at Wall Stadium.  Plenty of Legends racers gathered to be part of the Turkey Derby weekend and guys with much more experience than Hemric were hitting the track.  But the young driver didn't let that pressure get to him and he marched on to yet another victory.

Wayne Helliwell, Jr. (LM)- At Lee USA Speedway (NH), Wayne Helliwell, Jr. is a champion and a well-proven commodity.  He's also held his own in the ACT Late Model ranks.  But the pressure was on this past weekend when Helliwell towed to New Jersey's Wall Stadium for the first time.  His trip was a fruitful one though - as Helliwell won the Late Model portion of the Turkey Derby.
