Quarter Master's Clutch Performance of the Week
Who Came Through in The Clutch This Time?
As Decided by the Staff of Speed51.com
Performing in the clutch is what seperates a winning driver from the rest of the pack. Flexing muscle at the right time is something that true talents posess. Often luck plays a big role in winning versus losing, but being able to squeeze just enough strength out at the perfect opportunity is what separates winners from losers. Performing in the clutch doesn't necessarily mean winning, however; it's all about making the most from what you've got.
That's why Quarter Master, providers of winning clutches & driveline components to racers from Super Speedway to the Bullring, from IRL to Rally, from NASCAR to the "Weekend Warrior," is proud to honor a weekly "Clutch Performance of the Week" from the short track ranks of America. Each week, an esteemed panel of short track industry insiders will vote on which drivers came through in the clutch. The driver or team with the most votes will then be the "Clutch Performance of the Week." At the end of the 2009 season, the driver or team that received the most votes throughout the season will then be the "Clutch Performer of the Year" and will be awarded a clutch kit from Quarter Master, valued at $3,500 - just like the 2008 Quarter Master Clutch Performer of the Year winner Eddie MacDonald.
This week's "Quarter Master Clutch Performance of the Week" goes to ...
Clay Rogers - USARacing Pro Cup
There wasn't much racing this past weekend. In fact, it rained so much that one of our voters put "God" on his ballot for Clutch Performance nominations after this weekend.
But even if there were 100 races, the victor in this week's competition might not have been any different thanks to a textbook case of pulling through in the clutch.
Clay Rogers entered the season finale for the USARacing Pro Cup Series this past weekend at the South Boston with plenty of pressure on him. The 2009 championship was his to lose and any mistake would hand over the title to J.P. Morgan, who has come on strong late in the yea.
So Rogers went to South Boston and kicked some tail. He won the pole, dominated the race, won to event and took the title.
That performance was good enough for Clay Rogers to be named as the winner of this week's Speed51.com Quarter Master Clutch Performance of the Week award.
It was the first time this season that Rogers won the award and here are a few of our voter comments on his selection this time around:
"Clay Rogers [gets my vote]... not just for winning, but for taking all the Wix Challenge Award win from the pole bonus money."
"He did everything that he needed to do, that is coming through in the clutch."
Here are our honorable mentions for this week:
Stewart Friesen (RoC Dirt Modifieds) - Stewart Friesen came through in the clutch for his RoC win at Five Mile Point Speedway. Mastering the tight quarter-mile is always tricky, but coming on late and beating the master of dirt Brett Hearn, like Friesen did, is truly an accomplishment.
Johnny VanDoorn (CRA) - Johnny VanDoorn got an honorable mention even though he didn't even turn a wheel on the racetrack this week. Instead, VanDoorn came up with a way to get his underfunded team to this weekend's North South Shootout Super Late Model event at Concord Speedway (NC). The recently-crowned CRA Super Series champion will be a welcome addition to the field and his #61 team, which tows around the Midwest with just a pick-up truck and race trailer, should be commended for doing what it takes to make this trip.
Now if we could just get them to enter the Snowball Derby....
Quarter Master salutes Clay Rogers on this week’s Quarter Master Clutch Performance of the Week award.
