Quarter Master's Clutch Performance of the Week
Who Came Through in The Clutch This Time?
As Decided by the Staff of Speed51.com
Performing in the clutch is what seperates a winning driver from the rest of the pack.  Flexing muscle at the right time is something that true talents posess.  Often luck plays a big role in winning versus losing, but being able to squeeze just enough strength out at the perfect opportunity is what separates winners from losers.  Performing in the clutch doesn't necessarily mean winning, however; it's all about making the most from what you've got.

That's why Quarter Master, providers of winning clutches & driveline components to racers from Super Speedway to the Bullring, from IRL to Rally, from NASCAR to the "Weekend Warrior," is proud to honor a weekly "Clutch Performance of the Week" from the short track ranks of America.  Each week, an esteemed panel of short track industry insiders will vote on which drivers came through in the clutch.  The driver or team with the most votes will then be the "Clutch Performance of the Week."  At the end of the 2009 season, the driver or team that received the most votes throughout the season will then be the "Clutch Performer of the Year" and will be awarded a clutch kit from Quarter Master, valued at $3,500 - just like the 2008 Quarter Master Clutch Performer of the Year winner Eddie MacDonald.

This week's "Quarter Master Clutch Performance of the Week" goes to ...
Jeff Fultz - #67 CRA Super Series SLM

Never before have we gotten more overall votes for our weekly Quarter Master Clutch Performance of the Week award.  Our panel of experts all get their ballots every week, but people are busy so some voters might miss casting a ballot from time to time.

This week, nearly everyone voted and nearly every vote was the same.  Everyone was very motivated to honor a worthy racer.

Jeff Fultz lost his son Johnny in a traffic accident a week and a half ago.  One week later, Fultz would return to his home state of Ohio to bury his son.  But on the night before that trip, Fultz honored a commitment to take part in the North South Shootout at Concord Speedway (NC).  It was the first ever time that Super Late Models were a part of this big race and Fultz's sponsor and car owner was backing the race as well.

Nobody expected Fultz to compete.  His team and car owner would have completely understood his absence.  But Fultz is a racer and he didn't know what else to do than to race that night in memory of his late son.

And in true storybook fashion, Fultz won the race.  He didn't just sneak into the victory either.  He dominated the event.

That performance allowed Jeff Fultz to be named as the winner of this week's  Speed51.com Quarter Master Clutch Performance of the Week award.

All but one vote this week was for Fultz and here are just a few of what the ballots said when they were returned with Fultz's name on them:

"Jeff Fultz for Winning the CRA North/South Shootout just days after his son was killed and handling all the interviews and questions without hesitation."

"Hands down....there is only one choice and no other consideration....JEFF FULTZ!!!!!!!!!!!"

"Jeff Fultz.  No one else comes close under the circumstances. Just to show up at the track, never mind win."

"Jeff Fultz without question. Hats off to him for all that he's been through."

"Jeff Fultz, and this one should be unanimous."

Here are our honorable mention for this week:

George Brunnhoelzl, III (Modifieds) - There was only one vote cast for an alternate this week and to be fair, that voter put Jeff Fultz's name in for the Pro Shocks Pro Shock of the Week award.  Here is what they voted for their Quarter Master Clutch Performance of the Week choice:

"George Brunnhoelzl lll coming through the field in the North South Shootout and running down the leaders under green. He would have won the race had it not been for a RF going flat.

Quarter Master salutes Jeff Fultz on this week’s Quarter Master Clutch Performance of the Week award.
