For this week's "Shock of the Week..."
It's not often that a race winner stands in victory lane after crossing beneath the checkered flag second.  It's not often that they have champagne sprayed all over him and with reporters' cameras and tape recorders in their face, admits to not truly deserving the race victory.  The fact that Jason Bowles won Saturday's NASCAR Camping World West Series race on the road course at Infineon Raceway in California is not a shock, but the way in which he took the victory, however unwillingly, was the true shock.

Porsche factory driver and road course expert Patrick Long was the star of the show Saturday at Infineon.  Long scored the pole and charged through the field after his pit stop.  The only roadblock came in the former of former NASCAR East Series Champion and current Sprint Cup rookie phenom Joey Logano.  Going intot he final lap, Logano was leading.  Long disposed of him and sent him spinning.  Long cleared the mess and got to the finish line first - only to find that NASCAR officials had docked him from the victory.  Bowles, Long's teammate, cleared the fracas and went on to win the race.  But afterwards, in victory lane, Bowles admitted to reporters that...

'“Actually, the real winner here today is my teammate Patrick Long,” Bowles said. “I was just the beneficiary of some rough driving. We were in the right place at the right time at the end.”

The contact between Long and Logano on the final lap, plus his brutal honesty in victory lane, our esteemed panel selected Jason Bowles as this week's recipient of the Pro Shocks "Shock of the Week Award."

Bowles' performance earned him a landslide victory in this week's poll over Rick Senneker.  Now, a few of our panelists noted that it's not a shock that a Senneker won an Outlaw Late Model race at Kalamazoo Speedway in Michigan Saturday night.  But, the real shock was that for the first time all season, it wasn't Terry Senneker in victory lane.  Instead, it was Rick who won the first of two Outlaw LM races at "The Zoo," Saturday, but still Terry got back to his winning ways in the second feature of the night.

For his “Shock” of a performance, Bowles will receive a product gift certificate from Pro Shocks, the short-track leader in racing shock technology and performance.  Based in Lawrenceville, Georgia, Pro Shocks has helped drivers on both dirt and asphalt perform better for more than 25 years.
