This Week's Big Surprise in Short Track Racing
As Decided by the Staff of

Every week, our esteemed panel at will determine the most improbable, fascinating or "shocking" moment from the week and award the Pro Shocks "Shock of the Week."  The winner each week will receive a product gift certificate from Pro Shocks, the leader in short track shock technology and performance.  At the end of the season, the most "shocking" moment will be awarded the "Shock of the Year" and the winning driver will receive a special gift from Pro Shocks.

For this week's "Shock of the Week..."
This week's choice for the Pro Shocks "Shock of the Week" award was almost unanimous. All but one vote that was cast this week was cast for the latest PASS North race winner - Chris Staples.

Staples, a two-time PASS Modified champion and winner of 11 career races in that series, has only made a handful of PASS North starts in his career.  He's run in what was the PASS Outlaw Late Model division with his black and orange #5 machine, but his time in the top level of the PASS North racing lineup was very limited before now.  So a seventh-place run in the PASS North opener last month at Speedway 95 was impressive.  But what he did in winning Saturday's show at Beech Ridge was shocking.

Staples balanced getting the most out of a fast racecar with conserving his tires.  When other proven PASS North winners were just holding on to their racecars in the closing laps, Staples still had a good car under him and held off Adam Bates to win the race.

The victory came because of a good racecar and some heads-up driving - and not because of luck or circumstance.  There was a Rowe and two Clarks still running in the top 10 at the conclusion of the Beech Ridge race, so Staples didn't win against a weak field either.  He and his Seth Holbrook-led team earned this victory fair and square.

The only other Pro Shock Shock of the Week vote this time around went to Nathan Haseleu for winning the Joe Shear Memorial ASA Midwest Tour race at Madison.  We doubt that our panelist was shocked that Haseleu was capable of winning the race, but rather shocked because it was the first time in two years that he visited victory lane.

For his “Shock” of a performance, Staples will receive a product gift certificate from Pro Shocks, the short-track leader in racing shock technology and performance.  Based in Lawrenceville, Georgia, Pro Shocks has helped drivers on both dirt and asphalt perform better for more than 25 years.
