Every week, our esteemed panel at Speed51.com will determine the most improbable, fascinating or "shocking" moment from the week and award the Pro Shocks "Shock of the Week."  The winner each week will receive a product gift certificate from Pro Shocks, the leader in short track shock technology and performance.  At the end of the season, the most "shocking" moment will be awarded the "Shock of the Year" and the winning driver will receive a special gift from Pro Shocks.

For this week's "Shock of the Week..."
Johanna Long may only be 16, but she already has plenty of racing experience.  She’s driven thousands of laps around tricky tracks in the Southeast, all under the tutilage of her short track ace father Donald and crew chief Freddie Query, arguably one of the toughest-to-beat short trackers in recent memory.

But, even with plenty of seat time and the right people in her corner, staying inside the top-five throughout a 200-lap CRA battle royale like SpeedFest 2009 at Lanier National Speedway (GA) on Sunday would be a feat for any driver, let alone a teenager that had made only a few Super Late Model starts before the start of the 2009 season.  Alas, Long was able to stay with the leaders and had a legitimate shot at the top-two down the stretch before eventually finishing third.

Long never faded from contention to win SpeedFest, the biggest early-season SLM race in the country.  Running third at Lanier to a Cup superstar like Kyle Busch and to a local favorite and short track veteran Jason Hogan is an accomplishment that this teenager can certainly hang her hat on.

She didn’t fade late in the race and she stayed in contention against top-notch competition from lap one to 200, making Johanna Long’s performance in SpeedFest 2009 this week’s Pro Shock of the Week.

For her “Shock” of a performance, Long will receive a product gift certificate from Pro Shocks, the short-track leader in racing shock technology and performance.  Based in Lawrenceville, Georgia, Pro Shocks has helped drivers on both dirt and asphalt perform better for more than 25 years.

Pro Shocks is proud to have the largest and most knowledgeable technical staff in the racing shock industry. For more information about Pro Shocks, log onto www.proshocks.com or call 770-995-6300.
