Pollard Continues Hot Streak at South Alabama Speedway
Georgia Driver Goes Wire-to-Wire in Opp, Alabama
Track PR Report
The familiar red #18 pulled into Victory Lane after Saturday night’s Pro Late Model Viper Series Sidewinder 100 at South Alabama Speedway. But Ronnie Sanders wasn’t behind the wheel this time. Bubba Pollard, who has been the hottest driver in the South in 2009, steered the car to its familiar grounds.
Pollard has been tearing up the short tracks around the South. Pollard won the Pro Late Model Rattler 125, finished second in the Super Late Model won the CRA South’s inaugural event at Cordele, Georgia, Finished second at Five Flags Speedway, and won at Mobile. He’s leading four different series, including South Alabama’s Viper Series. Pollard and Sanders teamed up shortly after the Rattler Weekend, and the team has hit on all cylinders.
Pollard set fast time in qualifying and led all 100 laps to take his latest win. Pollard eased away from the field while Brandon Johnson, DJ VanderLey and Brandon Odom were battling for the runner up spot. Johnson got past VanderLey on lap nine, but couldn’t keep pace with Pollard. The field settled in and got some laps in the books. At the half way point, Pollard led Johnson, VanderLey, Odom, and Donald Crocker. VanderLey worked his way past Johnson for second on lap 58 and set sail after Pollard. VanderLey was able to catch Pollard in the closing laps of the race, but burnt his tires up running the leader down and couldn’t mount a challenge for the top spot. Pollard led VanderLey to the checkers, followed by Odom, Johnson, and Crocker.
