Copperhead 65 Goes to a Non-Surprising Winner
Team PR Report
Going into Saturday nights Viper Series for Pro Late Models Copperhead 65 at South Alabama Speedway, Bubba Pollard of Senoia, Georgia knew he only needed to finish forth in the race to clinch the 2009 championship. Pollard had won the previous five Viper Series events.
Earlier in the afternoon, Pollard qualified second for the 65 lap race but drew a 4 moving him to the 4th position for the start of the race. At the green flag, Pollard began his march toward the front. On lap 56, Pollard took the lead from Korey Ruble but things went sour. Pollard's, Pitboxes.com/HRI/Ronnie Sanders Motorsports Chevrolet Impala developed and oil leak, sending him to the pits. The event was red flagged on lap 58 while track crews cleaned up the oil dropped on the racing surface. During the red flag, Pollards crew was able to make repairs allowing him to re-enter the race. Pollard was able to to return to the track in 3rd position since there were only 3 cars on the lead lap..
Pollard was able to recover from the oil leak and from a lap 62 tangle with Ruble to win the Copperhead 65 and clinch the 2009 South Alabama Speedway Viper Series Championship. "
Wow, the end of that race was intense", said Pollard. "Korey was pinching me down in the turns and I finally was able to get around him. Mr. Ronnie (Sanders) and the crew gave me another great car to win the race and the championship," added Pollard..
There is one more Viper Series event on September 12th.
