The CRA Super Series will return to Anderson Speedway for this Monday’s Redbud 300 Presented By Great Deals at Anderson Speedway, the event was originally scheduled for Tuesday, June 16th, but had to be rescheduled because of weather. The famous high-banked quarter mile racetrack located in Anderson, Indiana has hosted more CRA Super Series events than any other track since the series first ever event on Saturday, April 26, 1997. Anderson Speedway has hosted a total of 45 CRA Super Series events to date. Former two time series champion Brian Ross is the all-time series victory leader at Anderson Speedway with nine victories.
NASCAR Super Star Kyle Busch will be on hand to race in Monday’s event after he competes in this weekends Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and in the Camping World Truck Series and Nationwide Series events at O’Reilly Raceway Park on Friday and Saturday night. It will be a busy four days of racing for the Las Vegas native who will compete in three of the next four CRA Super Series events. Besides Monday’s event, Busch will also race with the series on August 14th at Toledo Speedway and on August 23rd at the Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville.
Monday’s event at Anderson Speedway is a heritage tribute to the former ASA National Touring Series, which got its start at Anderson Speedway under the guidance of Rex and Becky Robbins, former owners and promoters of Anderson Speedway. Several former series officials, car owners and drivers will be honored at Monday’s event. Gary St. Amant, one of the old tours biggest stars, will be on hand to race in Monday’s event. The Columbus, Ohio native was a two time Champion with the tour, he is seeking his first CRA Super Series victory.
CRA Super Series point’s leader Johnny Van Doorn tops a strong group of series drivers entered for Monday’s event. Van Doorn picked up the victory in the series April 11th event at Anderson. It was the first victory for Kaos Motorsports, Johnny’s new team for the 2009 season. Van Doorn also picked up a win at Salem Speedway on June 27th, he is the only driver with more than one win so far in 2009.
2008 series Rookie of the Year Aaron Pierce comes into Monday’s event second in points, 41 points behind VanDoorn. Pierce is three points ahead of three-time series Champion Scott Hantz in third, Hantz was tied with VanDoorn for the series points lead going into the series last event on July 12th at Plymouth Speedway, but Hantz crashed hard into the turn four wall after contact with Eddie Hoffman, giving Hantz his first DNF in two years. Rick Turner is currently fourth in series points followed by Jason Shively and Terry Fisher Jr. who are tied for fifth place. All the drivers in the top five in points are entered for Monday’s event.
Other top series drivers entered for Monday’s event include Boris Jurkovic, K & N Filters Rookie Points leader Tyler Roahrig and fellow rookies Brandon Fagin, Nick Lay, Justin Matson Damon Ecoff, along with Jason Dietsch, Jeff Lane, Kenny Tweedy, Jim Crabtree Jr., Eddie Van Meter, Robert Maynor, Joe O’Connor, Tommy St. John, John Heck, Royce Mason II and Anderson’s own Donald Karr Jr.
2004 series Champion Chuck Barnes Jr. is entered, but not in his car, he will compete in the #12 that is normally driven by Florida’s Justin Drawdy. Drawdy was coming to race in the event, but had to change his plans because of work, the team then contacted Barnes Jr. to drive for them. Former Indy Car and USAC open wheel competitor Tyce Carlson is entered in a second Muller Motorsports car as a teammate to CRA veteran Kenny Tweedy. Georgia native Michael Pope is entered driving for Speed Channel reporter and Speed51.com founder Bob Dilner. Wisconsin’s Colin Bamke and Kentucky’s Martin Belcher have also filed entries.
Pits will open on Monday at 10am, spectator gates open at 1pm, practice will go from 1 to 3pm, qualifying will begin at 4:15pm. There will be an on track autograph session with all the drivers beginning at 6pm. Pre-race activities will begin at 7pm, the Redbud 300 Presented By Great Deals will take the green flag at 7:30pm.
