Race teams from across the country are beginning to see their seasons wind to a close. With their respective track or series wrapping up the championship points battles in the coming weeks, drivers and fans alike are beginning to look further up the road.
For most of those fans and teams, one early December event is circled and highlighted on the calendar for an event that any short track racing enthusiast shouldn’t miss. That event is the Snowball Derby weekend, held at the Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida.
“Reserved seat tickets for the Snowball Derby have been on sale to the general public for two weeks, after the early summer time period expired for last year’s renewal,” said track president Tim Bryant. “We’re a little bit ahead of pace from where we were at this time a year ago. In light of economic conditions around, it sort of looks like people might have budgeted for a trip to Pensacola this year.”
The nation’s best short track driving talents will gather together at Five Flags and will all compete for the illustrious title of Snowball winner. Legendary last names like Allison, Waltrip, Crawford, Miller, Bickle, Musgrave, and Wallace belong to some of the past accomplished victors.
The 42nd Annual Snowball Derby Weekend in the beautiful Florida panhandle will take place December 3rd-6th. Drivers will look to put their name on the back of the Official Snowball Derby T-Shirt…something that only the best can accomplish.
Bryant also added that the track is in negotiations with several top NASCAR drivers, adding to the prestige of the annual Derby.
“We’re in conversations with a couple of NASCAR guys, that aren’t ready to firm up their schedules yet. We’re hoping to have a little NASCAR flavor in the race.
“Plus, quite honestly, this is and always will be a short track race, and we’re expecting to have the best short track racers in the nation here.”
Fans are treated to the best side-by-side template bodied stock car action anywhere. The half-mile speedplant is usually packed full of anxious fans, which features 15 degrees of banking in the corners.
