Quarter Master Clutch Performance of the Week
Who Performed the Best In the Clutch This Week?
Tony Hirschman
#48 Roc Modified

Where has Tony Hirschman been lately?  We've missed seeing the five-time champion competing on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.  Every year for as long as we can remember, no matter what car he's been driving, you can always count on Hirschman to win a race...or two...or five or six in the Modified ranks.

Hirschman's hadn't retired, but he hasn't been racing either.  At least until this weekend when it only took a practice session or two for Hirschman to shake off the cobwebs and rust at Oswego Speedway.  That is where Hirschman won one of the most historic events on the Mod calendar on Saturday night - the Race of Champions.

Hirschman used his experience to beat teen sensation Erick Rudolph to the checkered flag in his first start since last October.

Hirschman also beat some tough competition for the Quarter Master "Clutch Performance of the Week" award.  Matt Kobyluck clinched the 2008 NASCAR East Series title at Dover against some big teams - like Joe Gibbs Racing, Ken Schrader Racing, Dale Earnhardt, Inc. and more.  Over at Martinsville, Burt Myers scored one for the Southern Modifieds by winning the NASCAR Whelen Modified / NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified combination race there.

But Hirschy's story was just too good for our panel to dismiss.  He was the hands down winner this week.

Quarter Master salutes Tony Hirschman for the "Clutch Performance of the Week."

Performing in the clutch is what seperates a winning driver from the rest of the pack.  Flexing muscle at the right time is something that true talents posess.  Often luck plays a big role in winning versus losing, but being able to squeeze just enough strength out at the perfect opportunity is what separates winners from losers.  Performing in the clutch doesn't necessarily mean winning, however; it's all about making the most from what you've got.

That's why Quarter Master, providers of winning clutches & driveline components to racers from Super Speedway to the Bullring, from IRL to Rally, from NASCAR to the "Weekend Warrior," is proud to honor a weekly "Clutch Performance of the Week" from the short track ranks of America.  Each week, an esteemed panel of short track industry insiders will vote on which drivers came through in the clutch.  The driver or team with the most votes will then be the "Clutch Performance of the Week."  At the end of the 2008 season, the driver or team that received the most votes throughout the season will then be the "Clutch Performer of the Year" and will be awarded a clutch kit from Quarter Master, valued at $3,500.
