It didn’t take long for Brandon Ward to be accepted as a driver in the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series.
The first year competitor won the overall Pro Cup Rookie of the Year title after a fifth-place points finish in the championships standings.  At this past weekend’s USAR banquet though, Ward also received another honor that came as a complete surprise to him.  Racing fans voted him as the series Most Popular Driver after casting their ballots for months at the popular short track website,

“Just to be nominated was exciting,” said Ward.  “When I was named as one of the final nominees, that just shocked me actually.  I never dreamed that I would win the award with so many drivers who have been in the series for such a long time.  Just to be in the running was neat, but to know that many fans supported us was amazing.”

The 27-year-old driver has had plenty of opportunities to meet those fans through the years.  He moved up to the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series after spending time racing everything from a Late Model Stock Car to a four-cylinder Dash car to a Modified on the short tracks of the Southeast.  Also, he was able to mingle with Pro Cup fans at many times throughout the year thanks to the marketing program of his sponsor, Supply One.

“I came up through the UARA Series and the Dash Series and have met a lot of fans along the way.  People in this area have gotten to know me and that worked out.

“Our sponsor, Supply One, did a lot of hospitality tents this year and we got to meet a lot of fans because of that.  Plus, with the things that they did to get their employees involved, I think that helped a lot.  Getting involved with RHR helped too, because that team already had quite a following.”

Ward hopes to be back in the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series again in 2008, to take the lessons that he learned as a rookie and bring his game to the next level.

“The plan is to come back with RHR and race in the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series again.  Nothing is finalized yet, but we definitely intend to be back doing the same thing.”

As the winner of the 51 Most Popular Driver award for the USAR Hooters Pro Cup
Series, Ward will receive a custom-designed, one-of-a-kind print and their choice of a
free t-shirt design or free website design through’s parent company, 51
