Who Gets Your Vote for Super/Pro Late Model Most Popular Driver?
For Second Straight Year, Winner to Receive ABC-Legal Body from Aluminum Racing Products
This fall, there are sure to be television commercials, posters, billboards and other propaganda proclaiming which candidate to vote for in the upcoming election. Media and the roadsides of America are sure to be decked out with signs trying to get Americans to vote for one candidate or another.
While John McCain and Barack Obama are certainly credible candidates for the position that they are fighting for, neither has ever strapped into a high-horsepower Super or Pro Late Model on any short track in the country, so neither would make the best candidate in the race announced today.
This competition is for the 2008 Aluminum Racing Products Super/Pro Late Model Most Popular Driver Award voting, which will kick off on Friday, September 19th, on Speed51.com, the nation’s leading asphalt short track racing news website. For the second-straight year, the MPD will be presented a “Package A” body kit from Aluminum Racing Products, the industry leader in ABC body packages for Super Late Models and Pro Late Models from coast-to-coast.
“Sure the next presidential race is getting a lot of the headlines these days, but I can guarantee you that this Most Popular Driver is a title that every driver in the Super or Pro Late Model world wants to earn and many of them will do whatever it takes to win,” said Mike Twist, Editor of Speed51.com. “I wouldn’t be surprised if some of those drivers start doing some marketing campaigns of their own to get the word out to vote for them on Speed51.com so they can earn the distinction as the Most Popular Driver and get their hands on the Aluminum Racing Products body for their car.”
The award will be open to a growing number of Pro or Super Late Model Series that compete with ABC-style bodies and will allow one driver to be called the most popular
Super Late Model driver in the country. The list will include some of the best from the ACT Tour, ASA Midwest Tour, ASA Late Model Challenge (North, South and Challenge Divisions), ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour, Big 8 Series, Birmingham Super Series, the Blizzard Series at Five Flags Speedway, CRA Super Series, FASCAR, the Sunbelt Super Series, Georgia Asphalt Series, PASS North, PASS South, Wisconsin Challenge Series, the Viper Series at South Alabama Speedway and many more.
We’re excited to present this award with Speed51.com for a second-straight year because it will only go to strengthen the popularity of Super and Pro Late Model racing as a whole,” said Brad Cook of Aluminum Racing Products. “We are a small, family-based company that supports short track racing in every way we can. This is a great way of giving back to the racers by giving a body kit out to the Most Popular Driver in the whole country.”
Last year’s Aluminum Racing Products / Speed51.com Super Late Model Most Popular Driver, Andy Pugh, was the peoples’ choice for the award, but who will it be this year?
Aluminum Racing Products is a proud supporter of short track racing and is awarding a new body to the SLM MPD for a second-straight season.
“All those fans that wear their favorite driver’s t-shirts, make signs and cheer their lungs out for their driver every week now have a place to have their voices heard,” added Twist. “Voting is as American as apple pie – so is short track racing. Whoever is this year’s Aluminum Racing Products/Speed51.com Super Late Model Most Popular Driver can celebrate their new racecar body knowing that they were America’s choice.”
To be eligible for the award, drivers needed to be in the top 12 in points in their respective Pro or Super Late Model series by September 15th without having missed more than two events in their series’ season to date. Voting will begin on Speed51.com on September 19th and continue through December 15th. The 2008 Super/Pro Late Model Most Popular Driver will be announced on Speed51.com just before the holiday season break, on Friday, December 19th.
