Saturday - UARA-STARS Series, Motor Mile Speedway

The UARA-STARS will invade the Motor Mile Speedway Saturday April 12, 2008 for their second event of the new season.

Will Jamie Yelton be able to pull off the win at Motor Mile?  Yelton was the top dog last time the UARA-STARS visited the speedway in 2006.  Yelton comes back full time to the UARA for 2008 with Melling Select Rookie Contender Paddy Rodenbeck in tow as his teammate.  Yetlon had a strong run in the season opener and has what it takes to be a powerful contender for 2008.

Rodenbeck will have his share of competition not only for the race wins but also for the Rookie championship.  Eleven drivers have pre-signed on as rookies.

Cliff Daniels pulled off a strong 9th place finish at the Concord event and eight of the race qualifiers are Melling Select Rookie contenders.  That is a very impressive number out of the forty-three that attempted to qualify.

2007 Champion Ross Furr started his season on an up note same as he ended.  Furr won the season opener at Concord Motorsport Park.  Furr said “ It feel's great to win this race. Tim Taylor is one of my biggest fans and so is Wanda.  They support me ever since I started running late model.  They have supported me when I was wrecking and they have supported me when I am winning. I want to dedicate this race to Tim.  He is laying up in the hospital right now.  If we can win this race, he can beat this cancer that he's got and be here later this year when we win this championship.  To be the Champion and win the first race of the season is just awesome.”

Young Jake “The Snake” Crum has shown muscle on the start for 2008 finishing
second in the season opener.  During his post race interview with Doc Love Crum
said “If it hadn't been for that last caution, I think we had something for him (Furr).”

Third place finisher Roger Lee Newton said that “We had a little problem with the driver
during qualifying who wheel hopped and broke the rear end.”  Newton ended up using
a provisional starting spot and came from 28th to 3rd throughout the night.  Newton
said “I just want to thank my crew, they made my job a lot easier.”

On reflection, 4th place finisher Clay Greenfield was very pleased with his run.  He
said, “ We had a decent car tonight. You know this isn't one of my favorite racetracks.
Getting out of here with a top five makes me look forward to going to Motor Mile a
place I like.”

Joining the STARS at Motor Mile will be the U-Cars and the Street Stocks to complete
the program.

Grandstand gates will open at 11:00 am  -  Racing will be at 4 PM
