Sunday, November 23rd, 5:00pm ET - It was a big $10,000 pay day for Justin Drawdy who held off Jack Landis for most of the afternoon, and a late charge from Augie Grill to win the Southern Slam 250. Sunday, November 23rd, 12:25pm ET - We have a very talented field here today in South Georgia. We took some time to break down a few of the key drivers in today's race. We of course will tell about the others during the race.
Augie Grill won last year’s Snowball Derby in Pensacola, FL. The Southeast Super Late Model regular had never seen the South Georgia Motorsports Park track until Friday. Despite not seeing the oval he put his number 112 white Chevrolet on the Pole. Can Grill add the Southern Slam 250 to his list of achievements?
Chris Gabehart has been on fire in 2008, after winning the pole for the Winchester 400 and leading several laps, Gabehart had to settle for sixth. He then got back on track with a victory in the CRA portion of the All American 400. He was one of the fastest cars during each of the practice sessions here in South Georgia.
Scott Hantz is the all-time winningest driver in the CRA series. He is also the current champion (which was his third career title), so there is no reason why you wouldn’t pick his a top candidate to win. Hantz didn’t have a good qualifying run, but he will be a contender in the 250 lap event.
Johnny Van Doorn is a young driver who is looking for his second CRA win of the season after he took home a win at Toledo Speedway (OH). Van Doorn has won big races like the CRA portion of the All-American 400 last season.
Alex Haase has become a serious contender in the Super Late Model world. After winning the 2008 PASS South title, Haase has quickly adapted to new tracks. The key factor for him is if he could put all the pieces together and get a victory. Haase like many drivers have never raced at the South Georgia Motorsports Park.
Sunday, November 23rd, 12:15pm ET - Today's race will be 250 laps around the half mile Souh Georgia Motorsports Park. The interesting twist to the event is that you can change up to four tires under Yellow flag conditions, however you can only change two at a time, we could see some guys change four in two stops under the same caution period. Or we could see other guys wait to take the second set on in the final 50 laps of the race. Ether way it's going to shake things up a bit during the event.
Sunday, November 23rd, 12:05pm ET - We told you yesterday that Wayne Anderson was here earlier in the week and blew a motor. He said he might return if he had a good night at the Governor's Cup 200 at New Smyrna Speedway (FL) last night. Anderson won the race for the third time in his career, however he has decided to stay in Florida nad he will not be racing today.
Sunday, November 23rd, 11:40am ET - It's race day here in South Georgia. The cool temperatures from last night have vanished and we are dealing with somewhat warmer weather today. Last night in near freezing conditions Augie Grill won the pole for the CRA (Champion Racing Association) Southern Slam 250.
