Nation’s Leading Short Track Website to Provide Live Coverage of the 41st Annual Event

This December, the annual short-track racing Super Bowl, the Snowball Derby Weekend, will celebrate its 41st Anniversary at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida.  The 41st Annual Snowball Derby Weekend, December 3rd through 7th, will feature scores of the country’s top short track talents vying for victories in the Allen Turner Snowflake 100 or the 300-lap Snowball Derby Super Late Model feature.  Names such as Darrell Waltrip, Ted Musgrave, Butch Miller, Rick Crawford, Rich Bickle, Donnie Allison and Steven Wallace have all added their name to the Snowball Derby win list over the previous 40 editions of the Snowball Derby.

While Speed51.com has not quite been around as long as the Snowball Derby, Speed51.com and the Snowball Derby are seemingly synonymous in early December.  That’s because since 2002, Speed51.com has been the official news website of the Snowball Derby.  That tradition will continue in 2008, Tim Bryant of Five Flags Speedway has announced that Speed51.com will once again be the official news site of the Snowball Derby in 2008.

“We have really enjoyed the growth of the partnership between the Snowball Derby and Speed51.com,” said Tim Bryant, promoter of the Snowball Derby and Five Flags Speedway.  “Their coverage keeps getting better and more in-depth every year.  Last year, numerous people complimented us on the Trackside Now coverage and we’re looking forward to that again this year.  A lot of race fans, even the race fans in attendance here at the Derby, follow it.

“We’re looking forward to continuing the partnership with Speed51.com and I know our racers that enjoy talking with the staff members from Speed51.com at the track are excited about the coverage again this year.”

From the time the first engine fires at Five Flags Speedway, until the fall of the checkered flag in Sunday’s Snowball Derby 300-lap feature, Speed51.com will be live at Five Flags Speedway, providing updates every day via the site’s original “Trackside Now” feature, plus driver blogs, photo galleries and more.

“Just by looking at the names that have won the Snowball Derby in the past, it’s easy to tell just how big of an event the Snowball Derby is,” said Speed51.com founder and

SPEED broadcaster Bob Dillner.  “The Snowball Derby is not just a race – it’s an event that every short tracker wants to compete in and win.  Tim Bryant and his staff are great to work with and they have really helped bring the Snowball Derby weekend to become the biggest short track racing weekend in the country.  It’s an honor to be able to continue this tradition we’ve built up with the short track racing fans, the Bryants and the competitors of the Snowball Derby as the Official News Website of the Snowball Derby Weekend.”

Speed51.com has become an innovator in short track racing by providing live updates from short track races throughout the country every weekend during the racing season.  In 2007, the Trackside Now feature on Speed51.com was used for the first time to allow people a behind-the-scenes, up-to-date look at the Snowball Derby in progress.  This year, the entire 51 staff will be on-site at Five Flags to take the Trackside Now coverage to another level.

“We’ve got all kinds of things in store for the Snowball Derby Weekend,” said Speed51.com Editor Mike Twist.  “We’ll cover everything on the track, from practice, qualifying and the race, to the stories in the pits that only 51 can provide that weekend.  We’ll have our fan-favorite features, including driver blogs and our popular ‘Snowball Derby Best Appearing Car Award’ voting.  But, we’re working on a few things that will bring our live coverage from the track to a whole new level, which I think fans that can’t make it to the Derby will really enjoy.  And a lot of our readers have told us they are going to the Derby this year after reading about it on Speed51.com.”

The 41st Annual Snowball Derby Weekend will kick off Wednesday, December 3rd with the Fifth Annual Cat Country/WEAR-TV3 Green Flag Party, where fans can meet their favorite drivers and enjoy live music, food, beverages and more entertainment for the whole family.  On-track action will kick off on Thursday, December 4th, with practice for the Allen Turner Snowflake 100 and the Snowball Derby, as well as practice, qualifying and features for the Sportsmen and Bombers.

102.7 WXBM Pole Night is Friday, December 5th, with time trials for the Snowball Derby being the headline event on a schedule that also includes practice for the Snowball and Snowflake and events for the Open-Wheeled Modifieds and Super Stocks.

The Allen Turner Snowflake 100 headlines the activities on Saturday, December 6th, as the Pro Late Models will take to Five Flags for their time trials and the 100-green-flag-lap feature.  The last-chance qualifying race for the Snowball Derby Saturday night will set the field for Sunday’s main event for the Super Late Models.

The 41st Annual Snowball Derby is scheduled to take the green flag at 2pm CT at Five Flags Speedway on Sunday, December 7th.
