Schendel Makes Plans To Chase ASA MW Title
Final Midwest Series Champ Now Looks to Midwest Tour
Two years ago, Tim Schendel and Dan Fredrickson had a point battle in the NASCAR Elite Division Midwest Series that literally came down to the final lap. In the end, it was Schendel claiming the championship by three points over Fredrickson. He would cap off the 2006 season by also winning the Toyota All-Star Showdown in Irwindale, CA.
The 2007 season saw Schendel competing various NASCAR Busch East, ARCA, and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series events. But, in 2008, Schendel is staying close to home as he will be going for the ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by Echo Outdoor Power Equipment Championship.

“This series really economically fits within our race budget,” Schendel recently stated. “We are just a family owned team, and sometimes we did a lot of things and went over our heads a little bit. It will be a lot more fun to get back and racing within your budget, within your means, and being competitive.”

For Schendel and his Iron Eagle Racing Team, the decision to come and compete in the ASA Midwest Tour was not a hard decision to make, “The way that the races have been going and with how competitive the series is right now, this is the place to be,” Schendel explained. “The races here are as tough as anywhere with the competitors racing in it. I like what they are doing with the series and figured we should be a part of it.”
Besides the competition, there is another reason for running in the ASAMT, “I have been bouncing around between ARCA, Busch East and the Truck series. If you don’t have the right budget and don’t do it right, it’s a real struggle,” Schendel stated. “It kind of was getting away from having fun. I am really looking forward to getting back to the short track program, getting back to racing in a series for points, see how we can do and have fun.”

When Schendel was looking at the ASAMT, one thing stood, “It’s going to be an ultra tough series,” Schendel exclaimed. “In a lot of these races there are about 10-12 cars that could win, and that is why I am really looking forward to being a part of that. Just to be betting back to racing locally in the Midwest. That is a pretty competitive area right here.”

Steve Einhaus, ASAMT VP, is excited to have someone with Schendel’s talent, be a part of the 2008 season, “When guys like Tim Schendel show up at a race track, you can expect to see him vying for the win each and every time,” Einhaus stated. “Tim Olson and I are ecstatic about his decision to get back to Super Late Model racing in the ASA Midwest Tour and our fans will be able to see another true champion joining our long list of experienced competitors.”

And will the fans see another Schendel/Fredrickson showdown for the championship in 2008? “That would be fun,” Schendel said with a smile. “Last year, he had a really fast car, and I have been doing my homework over the winter. Hopefully, we will have something to keep up with all of those guys, because there are no gimme’s in this series and that is what I like about it.”
