Colt James is Looking at the Big Picture in ASA LM South By Matt Prieur - ASA Late Model Series PR
Texan is Already Thinking About Points After Two Races
Colt James is thinking long term when it comes to the 2008 ASA Late Model Series Southern Division championship.
Sure the Buda, Texas driver is behind in the title chase to two-time ASALMS South Feature Winner, Jimmy Lang, but the 25-year-old veteran knows it's a long season and there's still plenty of time to garner that first feature win of the season.
After a fourth place finish and a runner-up showing in the first two South shows, James and his Colt James Motorsports Team are now preparing for the third race of the season, the Watermelon Bowl 100 at the 4/10s mile semi-banked d-shaped paved oval of Watermelon Capital Speedway, located South of Macon in Cordele, Georgia.
Heading into the third race of the ASALMS Southern Division season, James is second in the season long points chase 38 markers back of current points leader, Jimmy Lang (392-354).
"I'm really looking forward to the race at Watermelon. We raced there a few years ago so hopefully we can have a good weekend and have a good strong finish. Maybe even get a little closer to Jimmy there and make this points chase interesting." Stated James. "It's a long season though, we've got time."
"I just have to give a big thanks to my crew for all their hard work and Magnum Trailers, Hamke Race Cars, and Day Motorsports, without everyone working so hard, we wouldn?t even be considering going after a championship," He added.
In the last ASALMS South race, James and crew were at the fast 3/8s mile high-banked paved oval of the New Senoia Raceway, located Southwest of Atlanta in Senoia, Georgia for the Georgia Showdown 100.
After Qualifying second quick to ARP Bodies Fast Qualifier and hometown favorite, Bubba Pollard, James would start on the outside of the fourth row thanks to the inversion of a Nine (9). He quickly sawed his way through the pack and was in second place before a 1/4 of the race was completed.
Eventual Winner and current ASALMS Southern Division Points Leader, Jimmy Lang has taken the lead on Lap 12 thanks to contact between Chris Dilbeck and Travis Cope. Once James got up to second, Lang did all he could to hold back the advances of the Buda, Texas driver although James did make it interesting at the end with lapped traffic before settling for second.
"New Senoia was definitely a good race for the team. Being only the second race on the car and never raced there before we feel like we accomplished a lot and hopefully can be stronger when we go back at the end of the year," James continued.
"Jimmy (Lang) had a good car and I know where I was getting beat so hopefully we can improve in those areas. We?ll see if we can stop his winning streak this weekend," James ended
For the remainder of the 2008 racing season, James will race his Ford Fusion with sponsorship from; Magnum Trailers, as well as Wells Cargo, Day Motorsports, Aero Race Wheels, M.P.H. Promotions, Robert Hamke Race Cars, and Colt James Motorsports.
Colt James won the ASA LM race last year at San Antonio.
