Trackside Now: South Alabama Speedway
Auggie Grill Wins Wild Rattler Finish
Saturday, 8:50am CT - The first "official" day of Rattler competition is just getting ready to get underway.  The pits are now open and there is a chill in the air, a very different look then a few days ago, when the South Alabama Speedway area was ravaged by severe weather, including a tornado that struck Enterprise, AL, leaving a huge trail of destruction.
There are currently 33-plus Super Late Models in the pits with several more expected to come in today.  On Friday, there were only 18 Pro Late Models, but more are also expected on Saturday.

Officials from the CRA Super Series are in town and will help do the timing and scoring for the 250-lap feature on Sunday, as well as the Pro Late Model event on Saturday night.

Practice is set to being in just a few moments.

Stay tuned to Speed51.com for more throughout the day, here with Trackside Now.

Saturday, 8:00am CT - Here are the times for Friday's Super Late Model and Pro Late Model practice session.
South Alabama Speedway has a sign on their front stretch wall honoring the late Charlie Bradberry.
Saturday, 4:30pm CT - Qualifying for the Super Late Models has finally began.  About half of the cars have taken time, with Casey Smith setting the quickest time thus far.  We'll have full results soon.

Saturday, 3:30pm CT - The tech line at South Alabama Speedway is running rather slow, which has backed up the start of qualifying.  All of the Super Late Models are almost through tech and the Pro Late Models still need to go through.  Qualifying will probably start around 4pm local time.

Saturday, 2:00pm CT - Qualifying for both the Super Late Model and Pro Late Model divisions is set to begin at 3pm local time.  Currently, all of the cars are sitting on jack stands in the pits, awaiting the release of all qualifying tires.  The cars must all be on jack stands before qualifying tires will be released.  36 cars will take time in the Super Late Models, with 19 in the Pros.

Ben Rowe, Jeremy Rice and Eddie Craig are all looking to do the double today and tomorrow, racing in tonight's Pro Late Model event and tomorrow's Super Late Model 250-lapper.  Ronnie Sanders originally had both his Pro Late Model and Super Late Model at the track, but has decided to run just the Pro Late Model event.

Saturday, 12:30pm CT - Casey Smith led the final Super Late Model practice on Saturday afternoon.  Ben Rowe led the final Pro Late Model practice session.  The driver's meeting is currently wrapping up.

Casey Smith led the final Rattler practice session.
Korey Ruble is eyeing a Pro Late Model victory on Saturday night and he's been very fast.
Ben Rowe has been fast in both his Pro Late Model (above) and his Super Late Model.
Scott was able to hold on to third.  Ben Rowe was the fourth quickest, with Matt Merrell rounding out the top-five.

Pro Late Models are on the track now.
Shane Seig didn't have to think about going fast... he did it.  Seig nearly set a new track record in capturing the pole for Sunday's Rattler.
Saturday, 7:50pm CT - Racing for the night is underway with the Mini-Sportsman cars.  Cameron Henderson won the 20-lap event.  The Super Late Model Last Chance race is up next.

Saturday, 6:10pm CT - There will be a 25-lap Super Late Model Last Chance race.  Jason Hogan, who has been fast all weekend long, will start from the pole of the race.  A total of eight cars will start the event, racing for four transfer spots.  Two drivers, Ryan Crane and Dale Little, (who didn't make the top-24 in qualifying) will not start the event and take provisionals to start on Sunday.  Crane will take the most recent past champion's provisional, while Little will take a Viper Series provisional.

Josh Atkins won the pole for Saturday night's Truck Series race.  There are only eight trucks in the pits.  Racing starts at 8pm.

Saturday, 5:35pm CT - Ben Rowe showed he's got South Alabama Speedway figured out.  Rowe, who sat on the pole for the Super Late Model event for a while before being knocked off by Brian Scott, grabbed the pole for Saturday night's Pro Late Model 125-lap event rather easily.  Rowe was three-tenths of a second faster than second-place qualifier Korey Ruble.  Ruble was followed by Shane Sawyer in third.  A total of 19 cars took time for tonight's race.
Saturday, 5:15pm CT - Shane Seig has captured the pole for Sunday's Rattler 250 at South Alabama Speedway.  Seig went out near the tail end of the 34 cars that took time and knocked Brian Scott off of the top spot.  Josh Hamner came out later and captured the second-fast time.

It's a good thing that Ben Rowe watched Super Late Model qualifying, because he set quick time in the Pro Late Model division and almost did it in the Super Late Models as well.
Saturday, 8:30pm CT - It might not have been an exciting race, but it was full of drama.

It was not a good night to be a leader in the Super Late Model Last Chance race.  First, Jason Hogan led the first 18 laps before blowing a motor and falling out of the event.  Then, Heath Hindman caught fire, handing the lead over to Gary Nix.  Nix held on to take the checkered flag and transfer into Sunday's feature.

Hogan will not make the event and load up and head home.

Saturday, 10:10pm CT - Halfway through the Pro Late Model event, Ronnie Sanders has made a charge all the way up to first position after starting ninth.  Ben Rowe led the first 53 laps before getting bumped from behind by second-place Korey Ruble.  Both drivers were sent to the tail of the field after Rowe spun.  Shane Sawyer is running second, with Michael Pope third.

Saturday, 9:50pm CT - The 125-lap Pro Late Model event is underway.  Ben Rowe and Korey Ruble, who have been the two fastest Pro Late Models all weekend long, run one-two.

Saturday, 9:00pm CT - Josh Atkins was able to hold off a late charge from Bubba Gale to win Saturday night's 30-lap Pro Truck Series race at South Alabama Speedway.
Ronnie Sanders won Saturday night's Pro Late Model feature event during the Rattler weekend.
Sunday, 1:45pm CT - Things are running a little bit behind at South Alabama Speedway and the running of the Rattler.  The driver's meeting has just wrapped up and now the fans are down on the frontstretch for a short autograph session.  Soon after that, the teams will be introduced and the race will be on.

Just a couple of the Rattler race rules:  the last 25 laps will be run on green, there will be a competition caution at lap 78 (in honor of Charlie Bradberry), there will only be five laps of caution counter per caution period, the lapped cars will line up on the outside among other rules.

Sunday, 10:30am CT - The pits are open and people are beginning to mill around in the outer pits and in the infield in preparation for today's running of the Rattler 250.  The wind is strong and the air is very chilly, with temps only in the 40s.  A field of 30 Super Late Models will take the green on Sunday.  An autograph session will begin around 12:30, with the Rattler 250 going green at 2pm local time.

Sunday, 4:52pm CT - The Rattler came down to an unforgettable finish.  Augie Grill took the win, sliding across the start-finish line with a wrecked racecar after contact with Hunter Robbins for the lead on the last corner of the last lap.  It was a crazy finish and both cars are destroyed from contact with each other and the wall, but Grill is celebrating in victory lane.  Robbins finished second and slammed into the water barrels on the frontstretch after taking the checkers.  The two took turns bumping each other out in the final laps.  It's a wild scene and developments are still occurring, so stay tuned to Speed51.com for the whole story.

Sunday, 4:00pm CT - Augie Grill holds the top spot now with just 50 laps remaining, with Hamner and Shane Sieg trailing.  Sieg has battled back from an early incident to hold the third spot.

Sunday, 3:33pm CT - Halfway at The Rattler, and Josh Hamner currently leads Brian Scott and Jeff Fultz.  It's a battle of attrition thus far, as only 16 cars are still running.  Early leader Casey Smith fell out of the race with a broken transmission.

Sunday, 3:07pm CT - The field is under the lap-78 mandatory caution.  Casey Smith currently leads the way.  Smith took the lead from Shane Sieg just a few laps before the break, then had to hold off repeated bumps from Sieg to hold the lead.  One tap nearly wrecked both drivers, but Smith held on while Sieg spun and suffered minor damage.  He will restart from the back of the pack when the field gets back under green.  Josh Hamner runs second, followed by Steven Davis.

Sunday, 2:30pm CT - The green flag has waved for the Rattler 250 at South Alabama Speedway.  Shane Seig and Josh Hamner are up front.
