Trackside Now:  USAR Hooters Pro Cup at Bristol Motor Speedway
Benny Gordon steals one from the Southern Division
Wed, 11:13am ET - The final practice session just took the green flag for the Pro Cup drivers.  Many teams are still trying to get their cars up to speed on the newly resurfaced track.

Wed, 10:06am ET - The first practice has concluded with Mark McFarland turning fast time out of 47 drivers that took to the track.  He was followed by Wade Day, Mart Nesbitt, Caleb Holeman and Shelby Howard.

Three incidents slowed the cars during practice, the least of which was a rag on the track that had to be picked up.  Steven Davis spun his car off turn two, but didn't do too much damage.  The team is gonig to fix the car for qualifying.

Also, Larry Wilcox was off the pace early and eventually caused a caution.  Dusty Williams spun to avoid Wilcox, but didn't suffer damage.  Pro Cup officials parked Wilcox for the rest of the day for his part in the incident and he will not race.

Below are the first practice times.
Wed, 9:00am ET - It is a beautiful morning here at Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee for the USAR Hooters Pro Cup South “Food City 150”.   The temperature is currently 71 degrees, but it will not stay there long as it is forcast to get up to 90 degrees today.  A 40 percent chance of thunderstorms will have everyone watching the skies today, but currently it is sunny with some scattered clouds.

A few weeks ago, the Pro Cup North division ended their season at South Boston Speedway (VA), crowning Gary St. Amant as the champion and Brandon Ward as the rookie of the year.  In the Southern division finale today, Michael Ritch just needs to take the green flag to wrap up the Southern championship.  The rookie chase is close between multiple drivers, which is being led by Matt HawkinsRichard Boswell is only 23 points behind, making this a race to watch today.

The Pro Cup drivers are sharing the track today with the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series drivers as they will hold their annual exciting Bristol race after the Pro Cup 150-lap event.
Wed, 9:10am ET - The Pro Cup drivers are currently on track for their first of two practice sessions of the day.  Here is today's schedule:

Wed, 12:45pm ET - According to Pro Cup officials, the red flag during the second practice session was caused by the #7 of Ryan Duff getting into the wall, which pinched an oil line and sprayed down the track.  Everyone who was involved was able to escape with minimal damage.

With Wilcox parked for the day, 46 drivers will be attempting to qualify for 36 positions within a few hours.

Wed, 12:10pm ET - The final practice has concluded and overall nothing has changed at the top of the time chart.  McFarland has the fastest time overall with Day and Nesbitt still second and third.  Michael Ritch jumped up to fourth fastest with Benny Gordon rounding out the top five.

The middle of the practice sat silent for quite some time as the safety crew worked on cleaning up some fluids that made their way onto the track.  Carl Long and possibly a few others scaped the wall before the yellow was thrown, but everyone at this point appears to have made it through both practice sessions without major issues.

The teams now shift into qualifying mode, which is set to kick off at 2:30pm.  The run for the pole should prove interesting, considering McFarland will be the last to take to the track.

Timing and scoring does not have seperate timing for the second practice session.  Below is the cumilative practice speeds heading into qualifying.
Mark McFarland in the #81 was fastest in practice.
Ryan Duff scraped the wall in practice and put down oil.
Wed, 6:58pm ET - Pro Cup North series driver Benny Gordon has successfully come down and stolen a win away from the Southern division drivers as he took the checkered flag in front of Chase Pistone, Trevor Bayne and Shelby Howard.

Since Matt Hawkins had trouble during the race, Richard Boswell took the Rookie of the Year title.

Wed, 6:54pm ET - The #11 of Clay Jones stopped on the track right after the green flag flew, putting the field once again under the yellow flag at lap 145.  With just a few laps remaining in the race, everyone is on edge.

Wed, 6:50pm ET - James Buescher has spun his car on the frontstretch at lap 141, putting out a late caution.  Chase Pistone was attempting to run down Benny Gordon for the lead as they worked their way around traffic, so this late restart should prove interesting.

Wed, 6:44pm ET - On lap 115, the caution came out again, this time for Eric Humphries who had trouble in turn one, spinning down the track.  Gordon now leads Pistone, S. Howard, Trevor Bayne and Jones.

Wed, 6:40pm ET - On lap 115, the caution came out again, this time for Eric Humphries who had trouble in turn one, spinning down the track.  Gordon now leads Pistone, S. Howard, Trevor Bayne and Jones.

Wed, 6:30pm ET - The lead is not the place to be tonight.  McFarland had troubles earlier, now Wade Day sees the lead of the race vanish as he has made hard contact with the turn-two wall just past the halfway point of the event.  He drove his wounded car to the garage with significany right front damage.  He appears to be done for the night.

Top five on the restart: 1) Benny Gordon, 2) Eric Humphries, 3) Shelby Howard, 4) Chase Pistone, 5) Clay Jones.

Wed, 6:20pm ET - Finally the field has been able to get a few green-flag laps under their belt.  At the halfway point in the race, Wade Day leads over Benny Gordon.  Eric Humphries has dropped to third with Shelby Howard and Chase Pistone rounding out the top five.

Wed, 6:07pm ET - Trouble for rookie points leader Matt Hawkins.  Contact with another car in turn four sent both around, coming to a rest on the apron of the track.  Hawkins wasn't able to get his car fired, causing him to fall off the lead lap and potentially out of the hunt for the rookie of the year title.

Wed, 5:55pm ET - A couple more cautions have come out with a wrecks involving Mart Nesbitt, Brian Scott and Frank Deiny.  At lap 32, the top five are: 1) Wade Day, 2) Eric Humphries, 3) Benny Gordon, 4) Dusty Williams, 5) Shelby Howard

Wed, 5:50pm ET - It didn't take long for the yellow to fly as it came out twice for spins on the track.  At the first caution, the whole field except five drivers pitted to get their stop out of the way.

During the second caution flag, the new leader Mark McFarland stopped in turn two and had to get pushed back to the pit area.  The new leader is Eric Humphries.

Wed, 5:45pm ET - The green flag has flown here at Bristol Motor Speedway as 36 Pro Cup drivers hope to tame the beast.  Michael Ritch led the field to the green and is now the Southern division champion.  Now the race is on for the Rookie of the Year and the race winner.

Wed, 5:30pm ET - The starting field has been announced to the crowd as we are just a short 15 minutes from the start of the race.

A few other pre-race notes.

Two drivers atttempted to do "double duty" by racing the Pro Cup and NASCAR Truck race tonight - Brian Silas and Danny O'Quinn.  Silas failed to qualify for the Pro Cup race, but will start 33rd in the Truck race.  That makes O'Quinn the only driver to race in both races, starting 19th in the Pro Cup race and 13th in the Truck race.

Another name that is newer to the Pro Cup series is Andy Lally.  He is a road-race ace that has decided to test out his skills here at Bristol today.  He rolls off the grid in 35th.

Wed, 4:30pm ET - The drivers have all exited the driver's meeting and are getting geared up to race.

Due to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race following the Pro Cup race this evening, officials let the drivers know a time limit could be placed on the race.  If a time limit is imposed, a five-lap countdown will begin, and regardless if a caution comes out or not, the race will end in those five laps.  In the series history, they have been able to complete all races here prior to the Truck race.

Also of note, Mike Garvey was ninth fastest overall in practice but did not qualify.  His car had a water pump issue and the team was working on getting it fixed for the race, so he was unable to qualify.

Another interesting starting position in the field is Eric Humphries, starting from fourth.  Mike Mason gave up the seat for his fellow Californian to tackle Bristol.  Humphies has raced in the NASCAR West Series division in the past and will be making his Pro Cup debut as a rookie in the series.

Wed, 3:31pm ET - The provisionals have been figured out and the field is set for 150 laps of Bristol madness.  Below is the starting lineup.  The race is set to kick off at 5:45pm.
Wed, 3:15pm ET - Michael Ritch has started off his championship day by taking the pole position.  His #28 car was the only driver to get in the 15 second range with a 15.916 second lap.  Wade Day will start alongside with Mark McFarland, Eric Humphries and Jay Fogleman rounding out the top five.

The starting field will be posted shortly.

Wed, 2:30pm ET - The first group of cars have been fired and are circulating around the track.  In the Pro Cup Series, the pace car leads two seperate lines of cars around the track to scuff in the tires prior to individual car qualifying.  Once they get a few laps, they will pull back onto pit road and qualifying will begin.

Weather continues to be a story as the radar has shown another rain cell that has blown up and heading right for the track.  If it does rain, it doesn't look like it will last long, but it could be heavy.

Wed, 2:00pm ET - Pro Cup officials have been monitoring the weather radar.  According to multiple weather sites, a small rain cell has blown up just North of the track moving Southeast, however at this point it appears the rain will just miss the track.  The sun is still shining bright and the temperature has reached 90 degrees, 30 minutes prior to qualifying.
