“The Early Bird has, for years, been the premier season-opening short track race in the entire Southeast,” said Georgia Asphalt Series Director Micky Cain.  “Being a part of this event is exciting for GAS because we’ve got a big season in store, and the Early Bird is the perfect place to show off the series’ talent.

“Our drivers are extremely excited to get the season kicked off.  The folks at Birmingham International Raceway have brought us in to be the premier show during Early Bird weekend, and I know we will put on a fantastic show.  We’ve got 47 competitors pre-entered for the Early Bird, and we’re expecting even more on race weekend.”

With a strong pre-entry list as well as a record points fund at year’s end, the Early Bird 100 at Birmingham is a highly-anticipated event.  Making the GAS season-opener even more special is that it takes place at one of the South’s most historic racetracks.
“When you look at the drivers that have raced and won at Birmingham, it’s like a who’s-who of stock car racing,” said Cain.  “Bobby Allison used to own Birmingham - that’s where his son Davey started racing.  The whole Alabama Gang got its start there.  It’s got so much history, and for us to be invited there as the premier division in their historic Early Bird, is a big deal for the Georgia Asphalt Series and its drivers.”
Practice and qualifying for the Early Bird 100 Georgia Asphalt Series event at Birmingham International Raceway takes place Saturday, February 24th.  The 100-lap feature event will be the feature attraction that also includes six divisions of the best short track racing in the Southeast.

The final touches are being applied to Pro Late Models throughout the Southeast, and their drivers are ready to knock off the wintertime rust.  It is time for the 2007 Georgia Asphalt Series to begin.

On Sunday, February 25th, Georgia Asphalt Series racers from all over the Eastern half of the country will begin their hunt for their share of the $70,000 year-end series purse at historic Birmingham International Raceway (AL).  Each driver will jockey all season long trying to claim the $20,000 payday for the overall GAS champion.  And it all starts with this Sunday’s Early Bird 100 at BIR.
